It’s rare that I have occasion to be a student when it comes to Paper Crafting. I’m almost always teaching, designing, filming, editing and blogging! It was 3 days of pure bliss to be fully immersed in a Collaged Book Binding Class with Sharon Payne Bolton at Art is You in Stamford, CT.
I had never done this type of Collaged Book before nor had I ever tried the Coptic Stitch to Bind a Book. BUT…I saw these magnificent creations by the incredibly talented Sharon Payne Bolton and knew I had to learn how to make them!
Sharon was unbelievably patient and taught us so many beautiful techniques. It was three days of sheer bliss! Although it would probably take me years of Art School and practice to make something close to Sharon’s books, I was happy with the result of my 3 day class projects. Here are a photos of one of my books. The cover is a little blurry but I hope you can see the microscope slide embedded into the cover.
The binding looks braided. it’s just fabulous! One of the things I loved most was that Sharon brought authentic papers from all over the world dating back to the 1800’s. I use reproductions in my Card Making projects so I felt like a real Artist using these beautiful papers!
This was a little departure from what I usually post…so…what do you think???
The pictures are too small to see, they don’t enlarge when clicked on….
I, too, am an Art Is You attendee (Nashville and Memphis)!
Sorry about that. Thanks for letting me know, Gloria! I’ll post close ups. 🙂
