Two Tags for Tim’s November 12 Tags of 2014

Vintage and Distress can be quite addicting! A few days ago, I created my version of Tim’s November Tag for the 12 Tags of 2014. (You can see it HERE.) I loved creating it but I wasn’t entirely happy with the results so I took another shot at it today. I also fell in love with the Corrugated Leaf that was left over so I created a Reverse Version using that Leaf in the forefront of the tag. To say I got carried away and ended up in a mess is an understatement! LOL But I love these. Leave me a comment to let me know which version you prefer! 🙂

Two Tags for Tim

I’ll begin with the Reverse Tag Version shown below.

I spritzed Distress Stains in Spiced Marmalade, Wild Honey, Rusty Hinge and Brushed Bronze onto a Craft Sheet. After spritzing them with Water, I ran the tag through. I sponged Walnut Stain Distress Ink through TH’s Faded Dots Stencil and Gold Embossing Paste through the Burlap Stencil. I flicked some Black Soot Distress Stain Spray onto the tag – because, honestly, I was too afraid to actually spray onto the tag ;).

I used several colors of Distress Paints on the Craft Sheet, spritzed with Water and swiped the Corrugated Leaf through and heat set. I tapped it into the paint and heat set again. I then spritzed the Tag with Distress Stain Sprays in Walnut Stain, Rusty Hinge, Black Soot and Brushed Bronze. I used a Paint Brush and Versamark Ink Refill to put a few splotches onto the leaf and embossed them with Gold Embossing Powder.

I used Distress Stains – Spiced Marmalade, Antique Linen and Vintage Photo – to dye my favorite Crinkle Ribbon. I wrapped it around my fingers about four times and then tied it with a smaller piece of the dyed ribbon to create the Quadruple Bow and tied it through the hole in the Tag.

I wrapped a Black Fiber around the tag and then adhered an Idea-ology Charm with a Jump Ring. An Idea-ology Mini Corner was attached to the lower right corner of the tag. A Tiny Tag with a Remnant Rub was also adhered to the finished tag. Reverse Tag Collage Finished This Tag is my Second Attempt at Tim’s November Tag and was created in much the same way as my first version except I intentionally tried to stay brighter with the base tag so the leaf would show through better and reigned my inner grunginess in a bit. I stripped some of the paper from a piece of corrugated paper from some left-over packaging and die cut it using the Layered Leaf Die. The actual leaf was used in the Tag detailed above. The corrugated paper was then spritzed with Distress Stain Sprays – Black Soot, Walnut Stain, Tarnished Gold and a tiny bit of Brushed Bronze – because I just cannot resist it Die Cut Corrugated Leaf

Luckily, the Layered Leaf Die comes with a coordinating Embossing Folder!!! I inked it lightly with Walnut Stain Distress Ink and ran the tag through the Big Shot. I smudged the ink a little with a Blending Tool and used a Paint Brush and Versamark Ink Refill to apply Gold Embossing Powder to the Leaf and heat set it.

Embossed Leaf for Two Tags I applied Glue and Seal (love it!) to the back of the corrugated cut out and layered it over the tag matching up the leaves. I put an acrylic block over it for a couple of minutes to dry. Once it was dry, I trimmed around the edges of the Tag and saved those delicious Distressed pieces for another day! I sponged Black Soot Distress Ink around the edges of the Tag with a Mini Blending Tool.

Two Tags layered I dyed Crinkle Ribbon with Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed and Mowed Lawn Distress Stains and pulled it through the hole in the tag. Before I tied it, I slipped an Idea-Ology Pin over it and attached an Idea-ology Token to the pin and then pulled the ends through the loop to tie the ribbon. The bottom of the tag is embellished with a Black and Cream Ribbon from TH Trimmings threaded through an Idea-ology Buckle and secured it with a brad. I added an Arrow from Idea-ology Alpha Parts Framed.

Here it is in all of it’s Grunginess. I think it looks better with the contrast of the brighter version of the leaf popping through.

Spooky Halloween Tag for Tim’s 12 Tags of 2014

Once of my favorite Creative Challenges is Tim’s 12 Tags of 2014. He posts his Tag on the first of the month and then you have the whole month to post your version. I usually jump on it right away but I’ve never been much of a Halloween person so I don’t really have a lot of Halloween “stuff” to use so this project was a total IMPROVISATIONAL Attempt. This Tag was so grungy-licious that I had to give it a try!

Translucent Embossing Paste was applied through the TH Halloween Layering Stencil and allowed to dry. Silver Tinsel Twine was colored black with a Black Permanent Sharpie Marker. Dusty Concord Distress Stain was applied to a Craft Sheet and spritzed with Water. A small piece of Specialty Stamping Paper was swiped through and heat set. This was used to cut out the word “Boo.” Originally, I stamped a pumpkin and put it behind one of the round Facets but it was too white against the distressed background so I didn’t use it.

Once the Embossing Paste was dry on the tag, Orange Marmalade and Dusty Concord, and Crushed Olive Distress Stains were sprayed onto the tag.

“B-O-O” from the Alphaneumeric Dies were placed onto the Dusty Concord colored Specialty Stamping Paper and passed through the Big Shot.

Once they were cut out, Crackle Paint was applied over the letters. I had to use a Paper Piercing Tool to apply the Crackle Paint to the letters. I found that anything else I tried was too big. They were then adhered to the Grunge Board Squares with Crystal Effects.

I cut 3/4″ x 3/4″ squares of Grunge Board and sponged them with Black Soot Distress Ink. The “Boo” letters were sponged as well.

Brushed Bronze Distress Stain Spray was sprayed onto the tag slowly to create the big splotches. The edges of the Tag were distressed with a Distress Tool and then inked with Black Soot Distress Ink.

I didn’t have a Monacle so I used a Small Round Fragment and then painted the edge with a Silver Permanent Marker. Once that was done, I applied Remnant Rubs to the top of the Fragment and applied Picket Fence Distress Paint with my finger to the back of the Fragment.

The “eye” from a Remnant Rub was applied to an Idea-ology Type Charm and then covered with the clear dot that comes with it. Both were attached to a Swivel Clasp which was attached to Natural Black and Cream Trimmings that was tied through the hole in the Tag.

The Bird from TH’s Nature Walk Stamp Set was stamped in Versamark Ink and embossed with Black Embossing Powder and a Heat Tool. It was cut out and covered in Crystal Effects and then attached to the tag using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The “Boo” Squares were adhered to the tag using Score Tape. Holes were pierced into the squares and little Screw Top Brads were inserted.

Distressed Tag with Embossing Paste and Stencils for Tim’s Tags of 2014

I’m always happy when I’m playing with my Distress Inks and Idea-ology Toys! I wanted to have another go at Tim’s August Tag of 2014. He talked about using things that inspire you so I took out all my faves and started over.

I applied Multi-Medium-Matte to the back of some Tissue Tape that was the wrapping for a gift I received from a dear friend. I’ve been hanging onto it because I love it – which is exactly why I decided to use it for this tag. I also applied some Symphony and Sketch Book Tissue Tape.

I taped the TH Clockworks Stencil to the Tag and applied Crackle Embossing Paste through it and then did the same with the TCR Harlequin Stencil.

I allowed them to dry completely.

I wanted to use Bronze Idea-ology Charms but I didn’t have matching ones – which, of course, is not a problem if you have the right color Distress Paints! I used Evergreen Bough and Antique Bronze. Peeled Paint is pictured here but I decided not to use any of it.

Using my finger, I coated the silver Word Band and Mini Gears with the Antique Bronze Distress Paint and heat set it. When it cooled enough so that I could touch it again, I applied some Evergreen Bough Distress Paint and did the same to the Bronze Key and Charms. The Word Band was tied to the Tag using Jute String. A Mini Corner was distressed and added to the corner of the Tag.

I used an old tag that I had sponged with the Clockworks Stencil and the Pediments Die to cut this shape out for the top of the tag. I stamped the Fleur de Lis (from the TH French Flight Stamp and Die Set) in Versamark Ink and embossed it with Black Embossing Powder and a Heat Tool. I used the matching Die to cut it out (so easy!).

Next, I used Vintage Photo, Rusty Hinge and Evergreen Bough Inks and Stains because they are my absolute favorites! I sponged some of the Inks on the Fleur de Lis.

I rubbed a little Inka Gold onto the Pediment.

Next, I used the Distress Inks directly onto the surface of the Tag and spritzed with water to blend them.

I heat set the tag. Next, I used a Sponge Dauber to apply Distress Embossing Ink to some of the edges of the Tag and Pediment and added Vintage Photo Distress Embossing Powder to create the look of Rust.

I used the same technique to “rust” the Key and then dyed some Crinkle Ribbon using the same color Distress Stains and tied it through the Key. I used a Tiny Attacher to put the Filmstrip onto the Tag and then adhered the Pediment to the top of the Tag with Score-Tape.

I used a Vial Label and a Remnant Rub to create “Travel the World” and then adhered a Fragment Tag over it and tied a piece of Black Jute String to it before adhering it to the Tag.

I used a TH Script Stamp to apply random writing to the Tag. You can see it on the Pediment in this photo.

I love the way the Key turned out!

I applied Rock Candy Crackle Paint to the Fleur de Lis and then attached it to the Tag. I LOVE crackle!

This is the mess I created while making the Tag. Why is it so hard to be creative AND neat? LOL!

Sand and Sea Tag for Tim

The TH Sand and Sea Die inspired me to create several projects. Because I have the larger die, I used a large tag for my original 12 Tags of 2014 Entry (See it HERE). I was so amazed with the Sand Technique that I created an Art Journal Page HERE. For this Tag I used a standard size tag but I had to improvise and cut the dies down. You can see a full tutorial HERE. The Seahorse uses Distress Paints and Crackle Paint; The background was created using Distress Inks and the “wave” background was created using the TH Regal Flourishes Embossing Folder and a Window Sheet.

It was a little tricky to cut everything down. I just tried to follow the lines and I think it turned out pretty well.

When I added the faux sand to the tag, I mixed it and applied it and then added another light layer of the Embossing Powder to give it a more powdery look.
