Stencil and Embossing Paste Tags with Distress Paints

I used to be afraid of Embossing Paste. I'm not sure why but I just never used it. Now, I can't stop using it. LOL. Today's tag uses the TH Ruler Stencil and White Embossing Paste along with Distress Paints to recreate Tim's Stencil and Embossing Paste Technique form Compendium of Curiosities III.

These are the tag backgrounds created using the paints.

The TH "Be an Individual…" stamp was stamped onto the surface of the tag using Black Archival Ink. I stamped the saying again – this time onto the smaller tag and trim down. I adhered this layer over the tag using Stampin' Dimensionals.

I used Distress Inks to dye two pieces of Crinkle Ribbon (8" and 24"). Threaded the 8" piece through the hole in the tag. Wrapped the remaining ribbon around your hand and then tied the center with the 8" piece to create the bow.

The tag was embellished with Idea-ology pieces – A clip on the sentiment piece; A Word Band tied to the front with Black Fibers; two Silver Mini Corners.

June 2014 Tag

I admit it…I am a Stage Five Groupie. I love all things T!m! I look forward to the monthly Tags and participate every month. This month was Watercolor Monoprint with Stencils. I love stencils and I love watercolor so I was anxious to try it! It is not an exact science so I ended up doing two and I'm sure I'll do a few more also 'cause it's kinda addicting! LOL

I started with some Mini Distress Ink Pads (Crushed Olive, Dusty Concord, Mustard Seed, Peacock Feathers, Picked Raspberry). I thought I didn't need the minis because I have ALL of the regular Distress Ink Pads but they're SO awesome that I had to buy them too! This technique is a great example of WHY. I smushed them onto the BACK side of the Chevron Texture Fade Stencil and then spritzed with water.

Then, flipped the stencil over onto the smooth side of Watercolor Cardstock and pressed with a paper towel. It seemed a little too "neat" so I spritzed the paper with water and I didn't love the results. (It's the one on the right.) I immediately spritzed the stencil again and repeated the procedure onto another piece of Watercolor Cardstock to get another version. I actually like the second one better! (Left is the second impression.) I mopped up the remaining ink with a third piece of Watercolor Cardstock because Distress Ink should never go to waste! 😉

I trimmed down the Watercolor Cardstock and tore a small piece off the bottom. I then inked the edges of both tags with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink and a Blending tool. I stamped the "Creativity" sentiment in Black Archival Ink and then stamped the butterflies from the Papillon Stamp Set and adhered the watercolor piece to the manila tag.

Next, I smushed some Distress Inks onto the Craft Mat and layed 2 pieces of Crinkle Ribbon (8" and 24") into the ink allowing it to absorb.

I crinkled the Ribbon and heat set it.

I fed the smaller piece of Ribbon through the tag. Next, I wrapped the Crinkle Ribbon around my hand and squashed it in the center, layed it over the other ribbon and tied a knot around the ribbon to create the bow. (As per Tim's instructions.)

I assembled the Idea-ology Gears like T!m did on his tag.

Here's the finished tag using the Chevron Texture Fade.

I repeated the procedure using the same inks and the Latticework Texture Fade Stencil.

I trimmed the Watercolor Cardstock to fit the Manila Tag.

I stamped the butterflies from Papillon onto the tag and again onto another piece of Watercolor Cardstock and then watercolored them by swiping an Aqua Painter across the Mini Distress Pads and then hand cut them. I put a piece of Foam Tape on the backs and adhered them over the stamped butterflies.

The bow was created the same way. I used a placquard instead of the gears for this one.

Here they are together – Very similar – but each one is different. Hope you like them! 😀

Graduation Card with Craft Metal

It's Graduation Season! Lots of College Graduations in May and more High School Graduations in June. I created this card for the Dazzling Diva Design Challenge at Add A Little Dazzle. The base layer of this card is SU! Night of Navy Cardstock with a layer of embossed AALD Gold Glimmer Craft Metal. The Graduation Caps are Midnight Blue Craft Metal with a tiny Pearl that was colored with a Gold Krylon Marker.

Traveler Train Card

The new Stampin' Up! Traveler Stamp Set is perfect for a Masculine Card! I actually took an Amtrak trip last week so I used the train and Typeset Specialty Designer Series Paper to create this card. There's a little strip of craft metal 'cause you know I love my metal!

The stripes were done using Sticky Strip Adhesive and Gold Embossing Powder. Pretty cool, right?

Celebrate Card with Metal

It's no secret how much I love Embossing Folders. They just make everything look so elegant and there is relatively no effort involved. You just put the cardstock between the folder and run it through the Big Shot…and then…voilÃ¡! Today, I used Midnight Blue Craft Metal from Add a Little Dazzle. It looked good with the embossing but just needed "a little something" so I used a Krylon Silver Metallic Pen to just highlight some of the stripes.

The Challenge at the Dazzling Divas Design Challenge (Inspiration Photo is Below) was to use Vellum with Craft Metal so I used Stampin' Up!'s Silver Specialty Vellum and Banner Framelits to add a little banner. The White Satin Ribbon was tied using the "How to Tie a Double Bow Using Your Fingers Technique." (You can see the Video HERE.) The little "Celebrate" circle is from Starburst Sayings and was embossed with Silver Embossing Powder and cut with the Starburst Framelits. I layered that onto a Silver Foil Circle and popped it up using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Love Life Journal Pages

I'm back to my Art Journal again! This is really addicting. I'm not sure why it is so cathartic, but it is! I am absolutely LOVING the TH Crocodile Stencil! (Of course, I love all animal prints!) So…I turned on the camera so you could see how easy it is to create in your Art Journal and, hopefully, you will be inspired to DO IT too! I will be posting the Video late tomorrow so Subscribe to My You Tube Channel so you won't miss it!

There are lots of layers here – Distress Inks, Crocodile and Dots Layering Stencils, Script Stamp, Embossing, Popped-Up Globe.

I die cut the TH Camera in Basic Black Cardstock and again in Brushed Silver Cardstock so I could use some of the pieces to accent the camera. I also colored in spots using a Metallic Silver Marker.

The edges of the pages were sponged with Black Soot Distress Ink.

Another favorite of mine is Film Strip. I would wrap myself in that stuff, I swear! I ran a piece down the left side of the page and secured with a Tiny Attacher on the top and bottom and Glue Dots in the center.

Artsy Umbrella Man Tag

Today's challenge was to use an "Artsy" stamp. The "Umbrella Man" has been in my stash a loooooong time and I don't think I've ever used him! So…he makes his debut on this Distressed Tag.

I wanted the background to be a little "dark and rainy" so I started with Pumice Stone, Old Paper and Frayed Burlap Distress Stains on a Craft Mat. Spritzed with Water and swiped the tag through a couple of times.

Next, I did the Spritz and Flick Technique with Water and a Heat Tool to get the spots.

I used Frayed Burlap Distress Ink and a Blending Tool through the TH Clockwork Stencil.

Then, I used Pumice Stone Distress Ink through the Dot Fade Stencil.

I went back in to the corner with the Clockworks stencil. The Idea-Ology Mini Corner finished off the bottom corner of the tag.

The Artsy Umbrella Man was stamped in Versamark Ink and embossed with Black Embossing Powder.

The Ticket Stamp was stamped in Black Memento Ink.

I used the TH Gadget Gears Die to cut out some Chipboard and then sponged Frayed Burlap Ink on top of it. After cuttting it in half, I adhered it to the card front using Crystal Effects. Idea-ology gears were adhered on top using Crystal Effects.

A smaller Gadget Gear was cut, inked and attached on the upper edge of the tag. Idea-Ology Gears were attached using Crystal Effects. The Word Band was attached using a Paper Piercer and Brads. The Naturals Black and Cream Trimmings Ribbon was cut and then pulled apart to fray it a little before looping through the hole in the tag.

The tag was finished off with a Black Distress Marker and the Spritzer Tool.

Thank You Card with Craft Metal and Chevron

I wanted to use up some of my Craft Metal Scraps today. You know I use my Craft Metal A LOT! I store the scraps in a box and sift through it whenever I want to create something with it. Today's Challenge Photo from the Dazzling Divas Design Challenge was a rainbow rose (See Below). I chose a few colors and used a 1" Square punch to punch them out.

The squares were assembled on a small circle punch that had adhesive on it.

The Craft Metal colors used were: Polished Purple; Scarlet Red; Pucker Me Pink; Perfect Peacock and Princess Pink. I used a brayer to flatten them out once they were adhered to the circle. I popped it up and adhered it to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.

"Thanks" was stamped onto a 1" Square of Add A Little Dazzle Wondrous White Craft Metal with Jet Black Stazon Ink and a strip of Rhinestone Basic Jewels was used to outline the border. It was then attached to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.

I can't get enough of the attached Rhinestones, so I used them to accent the Chevron here too!A SU! Coastal Cabana Ribbon was used to finish the card.

Dance in the Rain – Celebrate Card

Today, I’m a Guest Designer at Through The Craft Room Door! I love Guest Designing! If this is your first time here, WELCOME! I’m thrilled to have you here! For this post, I had to make a card for a female Graduate so my browns were left in their cases – LOL. If you like exclusive Samples and Tutorials, Click here to subscribe to my mailing list.

I used both Distress Stains and Distress Inks on this background. Starting with the Distress Stains – Peacock Feathers, Wild Honey and Bard Door – I smushed some onto a Craft Sheet and spritzed with a little Water (maybe two spritzes). I dragged Manila Cardstock (4″ x 5 1/4″) through the inks and heat set.

Next, I applied the same color Distress Inks onto the cardstock with a blending tool.

Black Soot Distress Ink was sponged around the edges of the cardstock.

I used the Spritz and Flick Techique to get the water droplets and heat set again.

The “Life…Learning to Dance in the Rain” from the Tim Holtz Good Thoughts Stamp Set was stamped directly onto the cardstock using Archival Black Ink.

The same color Distress Stains were used to dye TH Crinkle Ribbon.

TH Label Letters were used to spell out the word “Celebrate.”

The Crinkle Ribbon was tied into a Double Bow (See How To Tie a Double Bow using your Fingers HERE.) It was then adhered to the card using Glue Dots.
