I’m back with another Coffee themed project! This time it’s Coffee Art Journal Pages. Grunge is where I live. I’m most comfortable there which is ironic because, not too long ago, I hated to even get ink on my fingers! I’ll confess that I even used to wear gloves when doing certain techniques! I’m all grown up now – LOL – And I thoroughly enjoy immersing myself in a mess. (As long as my Craft Scrubbie is not too far away!)
I applied Gold Embossing Paste through an animal print Stencil and allowed it to dry before moving on to the background steps. Stencils are awesome! I love them for all kinds of projects.
The background was done in the same way I do most of my Vintage Cards. (LIKE THIS) Apply various Distress Stains to a Craft Sheet, spritz with water and smush the Journal Pages into the Ink. Heat Set and repeat until you achieve the desired effect. Then, use additional colors of Distress Inks through Layering Stencils until you’re satisfied with the result.
I could not WAIT to break out my new Tim Holtz Fresh Brewed Blueprint Stamps for these pages! I am not much of a “Colorer” – least of all watercoloring – but I’ve learned to just go with it and not judge the result harshly which has helped me enjoy creating a lot more! I’m embracing my imperfections! Right? I used an Aqua Painter and Distress Inks to color in the stamped images – after stamping them on the flat side of Watercolor Card Stock in Black Archival Ink. (Scattered Straw, Pumice Stone, Walnut Stain, Vintage Photo, Mowed Lawn, Brushed Corduroy, Gathered Twigs For the coffee beans, I added an SU! Chocolate Chip Marker over a Rusty Hinge Distress Marker to give them a two-tone effect.
Next, I used Dina Wakely’s “You Can” Stencil to outline the words “Say Yes” and “Indulge. Then, I colored them in using an AWESOME Sakura Glaze Pen in Brown. Holy Cow! Where has this thing been all my life?! You just color in and it dries to a shiny glaze. Ummm – YES! I then used it to outline “Coffee” and “Latte” from the ARTplorations Latte Stencil so you’d still see the background. (And you thought you were the only ones who buy everything you see on these hops!-LOL!) 😉 Next, I channeled my inner Dyan Reavely and doodled a little around the colored words using a White Sakura Glaze Pen.
I used the backing sheet that comes with TH’s Stencils to create borders for the Watercolored pieces and attached them to the Art Journal Pages. It still needed “a little something,” so I added a few Chocolate Sequins using Glue Dots and then sponged around the edges of the pages using Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a Blending Tool.

Thank you for sharing exactly how you’ve made this. I tend to be CAS or Clean and Layered because when I try to go for a grunge look, it looks more like a hot mess, lol! But this is gorgeous and intriguing. Love those gold stenciled animal prints, and the outlines of the words. The style of the stamps fits with your overall page too. Fantastic art journal pages. Really wonderful!
Thanks so much, Bev! It’s funny to think grunge is hard for people because I think of it as a beautiful mistake! LOL Glad you liked it!
