I had the pleasure of taking Dina Wakley’s Faces for Art Journaling Class at the Papercraft Clubhouse in CT on Friday. Wow! I don’t draw well and I’ve never much liked drawing but I’m determined to push myself out of my comfort zone artistically so I signed up. What a FUN day! Dina is fabulous! So easy to be with and truly a joy to watch. This is my favorite of my drawings that I did during the class. You will howl with laughter when you see where I started!
Okay…so normally I would hide my failure at the bottom of a big pile but I want all of you to see how amazing a teacher Dina is. It sounds cliché but it truly is about the Journey! I’ll never be a Portrait Artist but I can have fun with faces in my Art Journal! When class started, Dina told each of us to draw a face – any face – and date it so we knew where our starting point was. Some people could draw pretty well but most of us weren’t very good. I was downright awful – LOL! The weird looking face in the second photo below was my best effort. Seriously! She taught us some techniques – real life ones – not art school instructions – and we tried again and again. The photos above are a bunch of my efforts.
As for Dina, she effortlessly drew one beautiful face after another. Here are a couple. My favorite is the one she’s holding in this photo. I included the full size photo below. Really stunning!
This is where I am now…I tried a practice face this morning so I wouldn’t forget everything I learned. It was still fun to do! The face shape improved a little but I am sure I still have a loooong way to go! Again, this is just for fun.
This is the spectacular face Dina drew. It was just gorgeous!
I’ve been blessed to take classes with each member of the Fab Four! They are all so nice and so approachable. They all have a love of their craft in common and easily remind you why you love Paper Crafting. I genuinely like each of them and respect them as people and artists. I LOVE when that happens! (It’s so sad when you meet one of your idols and they’re not nice.) Don’t pass up an opportunity to attend one of their classes!
Thanks so much for visiting! I hope you’re having a great weekend!
Hugs,
Cathy
