Time For A Grungy Valentine Card

I could NOT bring myself to make another conventional Valentine Card. LOL! Today’s Challenge at the Dazzling Diva Design Challenge from Add A Little Dazzle was to use Chocolate Craft Metal (my personal favorite!) and Scarlet Red Craft Metal. The embossed strip is Dark Chocolate Craft Metal and I used a tiny Scarlet Red Metal Heart to offset the grunge of the card. Click the links below to play along with the challenges this week. :

All edges were inked with Distress Ink and the inside of the card too to carry the grungy theme all the way through.

Many elements of this card were left-over from my Stash. The base card is a left-over piece stamped with a Dictionary Background Stamp. The Corrugated Strip is a left-over piece from Tim’s November Tag attempt. The Gadget Gear was a left-over too! Always make extras when you’re creating! It makes it easy to assemble something later one!

An Idea-ology Key Hole and Corner were added to the corner and front of the card.

A Gadget Gear was die cut from Grungeboard and embossed with Vintage Photo Distress Embossing Powder, cut in half and then added to the card front.

Romantic Vintage Valentine Card

I’m a Valentine Card Making Machine! LOL! I am trying to stop but every challenge seems to require some type of romance, hearts or love – so here I am! This card incorporates quite a few challenges. For A Vintage Journey, I used almost the entire Tic-Tac-Toe Board: Idea-ology Bauble, Distress Paint, Ephemera, Texture Fade, Crinkle Ribbon, Die Cuts, and Distress Stains. You’ll also see the Shabby Chic/Vintage Style with “Romantic Roses,” for The Card Concept; “Red and Pink;” “Think Pink;” “Love is in the Air;” “How I Love Thee;” “I Heart You;” and Rock Candy Distress Glitter for the Tim Holtz Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge at cc3challenge.com. Whew! See what I mean?! Seriously though, I find creating within the parameters of multiple challenges to be far easier than trying to come up with something when I can use absolutely anything and everything.

Romantic Vintage Valentine Card Step 12

The base card is SU! Chocolate Chip Card Stock cut 4 1/4″ x 11″ – Scored and folded at 5 1/2″.
Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick and Picket Fence Distress Stains were applied to a Craft Sheet and spritzed with water.
A piece of Manila Card Stock was “smushed” into the Stains and heat set.
Worn Lipstick and Spun Sugar Distress Inks were applied to the Manila Card Stock with Blending Tools.
Picket Fence Distress Ink was applied to the Craft Sheet again. The Manila Background was dragged through it and Heat Set.
The “Spritz & Flick” Technique was used to splash water onto the background. It was then heat set.

For the next layer, Picket Fence Distress Paint was swiped onto a piece of Manila Card Stock and heat set.
Worn Lipstick, Spun Sugar and Picket Fence Distress Stains were swiped over the Manila Card Stock and heat set.
The piece was then passed through the Big Shot in a TH Textured Fade.

Romantic Valentine Card Second Layer

The Manila Card Stock background piece was stamped with various TH Stamps from Mini Classics and Papillon using Vintage Photo Distress Ink and SU! Basic Gray Ink.
All card stock edges were distressed with a Distress Tool and inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
A strip of card stock from TH’s Paper Stash was distressed, inked with Walnut Stain Distress Ink and attached to the card front.
Worn Lipstick and Spun Sugar Distress Stains were used to dye a piece of Crinkle Ribbon. It was then wrapped around the front of the card and secured behind using Glue Dots.

The Embossed piece of Manila Card Stock was adhered to a piece of Baked Brown Sugar Card Stock.
A photo from TH’s Paper Stash was cut out and adhered to a distressed piece of SU! Pink Pirouette Card Stock and then layered onto a distressed piece of Baked Brown Sugar Card Stock. It was then adhered to the front of the project.
Two Die Cut Hearts were glittered with TH’s Rock Candy Distress Glitter – as described in his Compendium of Curiosities III Book (CC3C Challenge) and adhered to the front of the project with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The dyed Crinkle Ribbon was tied into a Double Bow using the “How To Tie A Double Bow Using Your Fingers Technique” – (SEE THE VIDEO HERE) – and adhered to the card front with Glue Dots.
An Idea-ology Bauble was attached to the knot of the Double Bow with a Jump Ring.

Pink Roses from SU!’s Ephemera Kit were attached to the card front with Glue Dots.
Pearl Basic Jewels from SU!’s Ephemera Kit were attached to the center of the Pink Roses.
Two tiny hearts punched from SU!’s Basic Gray Card Stock using SU!’s Heart Confetti Border Punch were Glittered with Distress Rock Candy Glitter and adhered to the card front with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
The inside of the card was finished with a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock.

Window Sheet Distressed Tag with Flowers

This “Window Sheet Distressed Tag with Flowers” combines a bunch of challenges. One of them was to use something “Clear” so I used Tag Framelits to cut out a piece of Window Sheet for the large Tag. The others were dies and distress, a tag, homemade flowers and hand dyed ribbon, something made from scratch, something clear and summer colors with a “bloom.” That originally seemed like a bunch of random ideas but somehow it actually made it easier to create. 😉

I used Sizzix Tag Collection Framelits to cut out a Small Tag from a Manila Tag and a Large Clear Tag from a Window Sheet.

I used Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed and Barn Door Distress Stains to create the background of the manila tag and then used the Spritz and Flick Technique.

I cut Grungeboard with the Trellis Die and painted with Antique Linen Distress Paint and then lightly sanded the edges and the top. Next, I sponged Frayed Burlap Distress Ink on the sides and lightly on the top.

I cut 4 “pinecones” and 2 “greens” from the Tattered Pinecones Die using SU! Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry and Garden Green Cardstocks. Next, I sponged the edges with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink. I rolled the spiral cut card stock to form the flowers and adhered them together with Glue Dots.

The Manila Tag was adhered to the Window Sheet Tag using Sticky Strip.

I sponged onto the Manila Tag through the TH Latticework Stencil with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink and through the Faded Dots Stencil with Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink. I used a Script Stamp to stamp onto the Trellis Grungeboard pieces with Black Archival Ink. The Grungeboard Trellis was attached to the tags using Crystal Effects or Glossy Accents. (Cut apart and reassemble as necessary.)

The Quote from the TH Visual Artistry Thoughts & Prayers Stamp Set was stamped onto the Manila Tag with Black Archival Ink.

Distress Stains (Spiced Marmalade, Barn Door and Mustard Seed) were used to dye Crinkle Ribbon. I attached a Muse Token to a Jump Ring and then attached that to an Idea-ology Pin. The pin was pierced through the ribbon and secured to the tag using Glue Dots.

I cut the Greenery apart and attached it to the tag (bottom and top). I attached the flowers to the front of the tag using hot glue. A Glitter Brush was brushed across the edges of the flowers.

Underwater Art Journal Pages

I haven’t done Art Journal Pages in a while so I thought I’d convert this month’s tag from Tim Holtz’s 12 Tags of 2014 to Art Journal Pages. I absolutely loved the tag techniques this month so I created pages in the same way as the July tag HERE.

I swiped Broken China Distress Paint onto the Art Journal Pages, spritzed with water and heat set.

I applied Salty Ocean Distress Ink and Evergreen Bough Distress Ink onto the pages using a Blending Tool.

Using the TH Sand and Sea Die, I cut a Seahorse from Grungeboard and painted it with various Distress Paints – (Broken China, Rusty Hinge, Peeled Paint). I sponged the edges with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. Then, I covered it with Rock Candy Crackle Paint and allowed it to dry.

I painted the Starfish and Sand Dollar from the Sand and Sea Die using Distress Paints – Rusty Hinge and Antique Linen. While the paint was still wet, I sprinkled Antique Linen Distress Embossing Powder over the top of them and heat set. I sponged the edges with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. Using a Black Soot Distress Marker, I traced the Starfish onto the Sand Dollar and smudged it.

I die cut the Greenery from the TH Tattered Pinecone Die a few times from card stock and painted them using Distress Paints – Gathered Twigs, Rusty Hinge and Peeled Paint.

Once the Seahorse was dry, I squeezed Pumice Stone Distress Stain into the cracks.

To create Faux Sand, I used Tim’s recipe: Ultra Thick Embossing Powder, Antique Linen Distress Embossing Powder, Black Soot Distress Embossing Powder and Crystal Effects or Glossy Accents.

I put all of the “ingredients” into a paper cut and then mixed in Crystal Effects to bind it.

This is what the “sand” looks like before the Crystal Effects.

I attached all of the pieces to the Art Journal Pages and used a Dena Wakely stencil with Pearlescent Embossing Paste to apply the words.

After putting a thin layer of Crystal Effects onto the pages, I smushed the sand into it and allowed it to dry. The top photo was taken after the “Spritz and Flick“ Technique was used.
