Butterfly Tag for March 12 Tags of 2015

I was hoping that 2015 would be a slower year than 2014 which seemed to fly by – but, March is almost over and I haven’t made Tim’s Tag for March 2015 yet! His colors were bright and Spring-like which drew me to it immediately! This was one of the rare occasions when I had just about every product used for the tag so I attempted to create something almost exactly like the master himself.

To begin, just adhere some torn Tissue Tape to a Manila Tag. Assemble bright colored Distress Paints and smush some color onto a Craft Sheet. Spritz with Water (I did about 4 sprays) and swipe your tag through a few times to cover it completely. Immediately spray the tag with Water to allow the colors to blend and then heat set. Blot any extra paint off with a Flour Sack Cloth.

Funny story…I had all my “goodies” out and was so preoccupied with doing the technique correctly that I inadvertently picked up a plain tag to swipe through the paint. I couldn’t figure out what I had done wrong that would cause the paint to completely cover up the tissue tape! When I repeated the process, I saw the first Tissue Taped Tag and realized my mistake. LOL So…now I have two tags PLUS the extras that I used to mop up what was left of the paints. Don’t forget to do that! You’ll get some great looking backgrounds for your stash! I’m sure you’ll see them again some time in the future. 😉

Next, apply Texture Paste through a Stencil and cover with Gold Embossing Powder. Allow to dry and then heat set.

You’ll get a beautiful raised effect with the embossing and Texture Paste.

Use the matching Distress Stains to dye a piece of Crinkle Ribbon and then tie it into a Double Bow (See a VIDEO HERE for How To Die A Double Bow Using Your Fingers) and attach it to the top of the tag with Glue Dots.

Attach a Typed Token to the Ribbon using a Trinket Pin and Jump Ring. Touch Tarnished Brass Distress Paint to a Mini Numeral and then staple it to the Tag with a Mini Attacher. Use Jute String to adhere a Word Band to the bottom of the Tag. Use Idea-ology Sprocket Gears and a Pen Nib to finish the tag.

January Tag for 12 Tags of 2015

Happy New Year! I hope your holidays brought you everything worth having! I can’t think of a better way to start the year than with the first Tag for the 12 Tags of 2015!!! This will be my third year participating and I look forward to it every month! This tag was challenging for me because it used lots of messy techniques and “stuff.” LOL I hope you like it! 😀

January 2015 Tim Tag

I was fully immersed in my creative messiness so I forgot to take pictures of some of the steps. I tried to stay close to the original tag for this version. I have a feeling I’m going to need to make a couple more of these so I’ll post those for you when they’re done. You can always pop on over to my boyfriend, Tim’s website to check out his step-by-step instructions.

Tissue paper and paint

Applied Glue & Seal to the entire tag and then applied TH’s Postale Tissue Paper, crinkling it while the glue was still wet and allowed it to dry.
I trimmed the Tissue Paper and sanded the edges with a Sanding Grip.
Applied Distress Paint with my fingers (You know how I love that! LOL) in Evergreen Bough, Broken China and Pumice Stone and spritzed with Water.
Heat Set it about half-way but left some of the paint wet so it would react with Walnut Stain Distress Spray which I spritzed over the surface of the tag and then spritzed with water and then blotted and heat set again.

Cut out Alpha Parts – twenty, one and the number 5.
Covered the number 5 with a thin coat of Glossy Accents and poured Gold Glitter over it and allowed to dry.

Covered the words twenty and one with Tarnished Brass Distress Paint and partially heat set.
Used a flour sack towel to rub off a little of the paint to create a distressed look.
Allowed to dry.

Chit Chat on January Tag

Applied Chit Chat Stickers on the bottom and top of the tag.
Covered entire tag with Glue & Seal and allowed to dry.
Outlined the Chit Chat Stickers with a Black Soot Distress Marker, rubbing the marker onto the sticker while it was still wet.
Splattered White Picket Fence Distress Paint over the surface of the tag.

January 2015 Tag Flat View

Adhered the Alpha Parts to the tag using Glossy Accents.
Used the Spritzing Tool and a Gold Krylon Marker to splatter the Tag.
Added a Mirrored Star to the bottom of the tag and an Arrow Sticker between the twenty and 5.
Used Tarnished Brass Distress Stain to dye Crinkle Ribbon and pulled through the hole in the tag.

Fall Tag for November 12 Tags of 2014

As you know, I love all things Tim! At the beginning of a new month, his Tag is the first thing I look at when I open my computer. The 12 Tags Series has challenged everything I know about Paper Crafting and has helped me to grow both in my skills and in my confidence. Actually Winning for one of them was a highlight of this year! (January-You can see it HERE.) There are months I love my creation and months that I find recreating Tim’s Tag more challenging. This month was definitely one of those months! I love Vintage, Distress and Grunge! This month’s Tag takes those things to a whole new level!

Distress Paint Colors for Nov Tag

I didn’t have the same colors of Distress Paints that Tim used. (I know! I thought I had everything too! LOL) I used the colors above and smushed them onto the Craft Sheet, spritzed with Water and ran the Tag through. The one on the left was the first tag – the colors blended together too much so I did a second tag (on the right) which was the one that I used for this project. The Tag on the right was Heat Set and then tapped into the remaining paint on the Craft Sheet and then Heat Set again.

Marbled Tags

I used my mini Walnut Stain Ink Pad to smash color into the Layered Leaf Embossing Stencil and ran my Tag through the Big Shot in the folder. Okay…so at this point, I got so carried away and dirty that I totally forgot to take pictures! You can see Tim’s Tutorial for the tag HERE. I used a Mini Blending Tool to spread some of the color onto the embossed leaf on the tag.

After applying Distress Embossing Ink through the Speckled Stencil, I sprinkled Heat & Stick Powder and heated it. I didn’t have Foil Sheets so I used little foil scraps that I had in my drawer and poured them over the top so that they would stick to the speckles on the leaf.

Next, I tore pieces of the backing paper of a corrugated piece of paper and cut the Layered Leaf from it. Then I applied Walnut Stain Ink with a Blending Tool and spritzed Walnut Stain Distress Stain Spray over it and Tarnished Brass Distress Stain Spray as well. (Yes! You definitely need the sprays too!) I used Glue & Seal – YES!!!! The Glue & Seal that hasn’t been available for a year! The Glue & Seal that Wendy Vecchi talks about all the time! Yes! That Glue & Seal is now available! Yay! – I attached the corrugated piece over the tag, lining up the cut out leaf over the embossed leaf so it would show through.

I used Here & Now from the Framed Alpha Parts and threaded a Black and Cream Ribbon from the Trimmings Set and tied it, fraying the edges. I attached an Arrow and a tiny label with a Remnant Rub.

I used the matching Distress Stains to dye a Crinkle Ribbon and tied it through the Tag.

All in all, it was a delicious distressed dirty mess but I’m sort-of happy with the way it turned out. I will definitely be taking another shot at it later in the month, though! LOL!
