Artsy Umbrella Man Tag

Today's challenge was to use an "Artsy" stamp. The "Umbrella Man" has been in my stash a loooooong time and I don't think I've ever used him! So…he makes his debut on this Distressed Tag.

I wanted the background to be a little "dark and rainy" so I started with Pumice Stone, Old Paper and Frayed Burlap Distress Stains on a Craft Mat. Spritzed with Water and swiped the tag through a couple of times.

Next, I did the Spritz and Flick Technique with Water and a Heat Tool to get the spots.

I used Frayed Burlap Distress Ink and a Blending Tool through the TH Clockwork Stencil.

Then, I used Pumice Stone Distress Ink through the Dot Fade Stencil.

I went back in to the corner with the Clockworks stencil. The Idea-Ology Mini Corner finished off the bottom corner of the tag.

The Artsy Umbrella Man was stamped in Versamark Ink and embossed with Black Embossing Powder.

The Ticket Stamp was stamped in Black Memento Ink.

I used the TH Gadget Gears Die to cut out some Chipboard and then sponged Frayed Burlap Ink on top of it. After cuttting it in half, I adhered it to the card front using Crystal Effects. Idea-ology gears were adhered on top using Crystal Effects.

A smaller Gadget Gear was cut, inked and attached on the upper edge of the tag. Idea-Ology Gears were attached using Crystal Effects. The Word Band was attached using a Paper Piercer and Brads. The Naturals Black and Cream Trimmings Ribbon was cut and then pulled apart to fray it a little before looping through the hole in the tag.

The tag was finished off with a Black Distress Marker and the Spritzer Tool.

Dance in the Rain – Celebrate Card

I used both Distress Stains and Distress Inks on this background. Starting with the Distress Stains – Peacock Feathers, Wild Honey and Bard Door – I smushed some onto a Craft Sheet and spritzed with a little Water (maybe two spritzes). I dragged Manila Cardstock (4″ x 5 1/4″) through the inks and heat set.

Next, I applied the same color Distress Inks onto the cardstock with a blending tool.

Black Soot Distress Ink was sponged around the edges of the cardstock.

I used the Spritz and Flick Techique to get the water droplets and heat set again.

The “Life…Learning to Dance in the Rain” from the Tim Holtz Good Thoughts Stamp Set was stamped directly onto the cardstock using Archival Black Ink.

The same color Distress Stains were used to dye TH Crinkle Ribbon.

TH Label Letters were used to spell out the word “Celebrate.”

The Crinkle Ribbon was tied into a Double Bow (See How To Tie a Double Bow using your Fingers HERE.) It was then adhered to the card using Glue Dots.

A Plaquette was attached to the card front using a Paper Piercing Tool and Brads.

The card front was then adhered to a piece of SU! Basic Black Cardstock – cut 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ – Scored and folded at 4 1/4″.

Enjoy the Journey Card

I've been procrastinating with my Glitter Card for the CC3C Challenge. They are so ridiculously talented over there that I'm a little intimidated! So, before it's too late, I created this Vintage/Shabby Chic Card. I hear from so many of you that you don't know how to create a Vintage Card using Distress Inks. You can do it! Here's an easy tutorial. Give it a try and, as Tim says: Embrace Imperfection and Enjoy the Journey!

The base card is Stampin' Up! Baked Brown Sugar Cardstock cut 4-1/4" x 8-1/2", scored and folded at 4-1/4".
A piece of Manila Cardstock was cut to 4" x 5-1/4".
TH Antique Linen, Spun Sugar and Victorian Velvet Distress Inks were sponged onto the Manila Cardstock.

The edges of the card were inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

The "Spritz and Flick" Technique was used (with water) to create the droplets.

The TH Scrollwork Die was used to cut a strip of Chipboard. It was then inked with Spun Sugar Distress Ink.

Attach Worn Lipstick Distress Glitter to the Scrollwork Chipboard piece according to page 56 of Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiosities III.

The piece was then inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and a Blending Tool. **TIP: Instead of going back and forth into the ink pad from the glitter, smush the pad onto your craft sheet and pick the ink up from there. That will prevent the glitter from sticking to the ink pad.

Ink the Script Background Stamp from TH Papillon Stamp Set lightly in Vintage Photo Distress Ink and press in onto the Manila Cardstock first on the left side and then on the right.
Use Alcohol Markers to color the metal rose from TH Adornments.

Cut a piece of Manila Cardstock to 2-1/2" x 3-1/2". Cut the edge using the TH Torn Notebook Die.
Attach the glittered strip to the card front with a piece of Sticky Strip at the bottom.

Smush Distress Ink Pads onto your Craft Sheet – Antique LInen, Victorian Velvet and Spun Sugar.
Drag the Manila strip through the inks and Heat Set.

Ink the edges using Vintage Photo Distress Ink. (Be careful around the top.)

Ink "Enjoy the Journey" Stamp from the TH Random Quotes Stamp Set – **TIP: To emboss using the Distress Ink, Ink the stamp in Versamark Ink first and then tap it onto the Vintage Photo Distress Ink Pad – and then stamp it directly onto the Manila Cardstock and emboss with Clear Embossing Powder and a Heat Tool.

Use the same Distress Ink Pads to color Crinkle Ribbon and tie a bow. Attach to the "tag" using a Glue Dot.
Cut the backing from a TH Accoutrements-Fanciful Button and attach to the "tag" with Stampin' Dimensionals.
Slip the "tag" under the glittered strip and place a couple of Glue Dots under the remaining corners to secure it, if desired.
Attach the metal rose to the card front using Crystal Effects or Glossy Accents.

Remember the Now Tag

Remember the Now Tag – I find it so easy to design using tags because they're so manageable – spacewise. This is an oversized tag and I really enjoyed using it. I found them at the Funky Junkie Boutique (Use the coupon code stockup4summer (from 5/16-5/22) and get an extra 10% off) and they were wrapped in corrugated paper for shipping which was almost better than the tags themselves! LOL Not to let anything go to waste, I used it under the greeting with Embossing Paste. The Challenge was to create a project with mostly left-overs. The Tag was new but the embellishments have been hanging around for quite a while. haha

I started with Distress Stains – Antique Linen, Gathered Twigs and Vintage Photo. Swiped some on my Craft Sheet, spritzed with water and swiped the tag through it.

That created the beginning of a background.

I added some inks (same colors but in Distress INKS).

After I dried the tag, I did the Spritz and Flick Technique to create water droplets on the tag and then Heat Set again.

Next, I used Vintage Photo Distress Ink over the TH Crocodile Stencil. How much do you love that!

I inked the Corrugated Paper with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and inked the script from Random Quotes in Archival Black Ink and stamped it as a background. The edges of the tag were inked with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

I used Dreamweaver's Gold Embossing Paste over the piece of Corrugated Paper and allowed to dry. "Remember the Now" from TH Random Quotes was Stamped in Stampin' Up! Chocolate Chip Ink and embossed with Clear Embossing Powder and a Heat Tool. The edges were inked with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

I inked over the Gold Embossing Paste with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and attached the sentiment on top. It was adhered to the tag with Stampin' Dimensionals.

This Memory Key has been in my stash for a loooooong time! It's beautiful but too big for most of my projects so I have a few of them left over from the Idea-ology Keys. I knew it would work with the oversized tag. I attached it to the ribbon with an Idea-ology piece that I also love but never know quite what to do with!

I die cut one of Tim's Cameras from Basic Black Cardstock and colored a couple of parts with a Silver Marker. It was attached to the tag using Stampin' Dimensionals. The lens actually pops forward if you put a couple extra Stampin' Dimensionals underneath it.

You can see a piece of Film Strip underneath the camera. I always have strips of that cut on my desk because I usually attempt to put it on everything and then realize I put it on everything. LOL. The Crinkle Ribbon was dyed using the same color Distress Stains.

This photo was taken of the tag before I added the Die Cut Camera. I wasn't sure if it was "over the top" with the die cut. You can see the Camera Stamp from the Mini Blueprints Stamp Set. I loved that stamp set when I bought it but I find that I rarely use it. I finished the tag with an Ideal-ology Corner.

Art Journal Pages 7 and 8

If you are a frequent blog visitor, you know my favorite colors are beiges and browns. I struggle to create in other colors. This is especially evident in my Art Journal! I am forcing myself to use different colors! As a result, these pages are not my favorites. LOL – I'm showing them here because I have a Stamping Friend who always tells me she can "never" do Vintage/Distress. Things don't always turn out the way I'd like but I'm trying to remember Art Journaling is truly a Journey! So, like Nike says: "Just DO IT!"

These pages were created using Tim Holtz Tissue Tape and Distress Paints. To create the background, I put pieces of Tissue Tape randomly across both pages. Next, I "smushed" Seedless Preserves, Broken China, Picket Fence and Brushed Pewter Distress Paints onto a Craft Sheet, spritzed them with water and smushed the pages into the ink. Then, dried with a Heat Tool. Broken China and Pumice Stone Distress Inks were added to the pages for additional color. The edges were inked with Black Soot Distress Ink.

"Leave Ordinary Behind" (from TH Random Quotes Stamp Set) was stamped in SU! Basic Gray Ink and embossed with Clear Embossing Powder. The Script stamp from TH Classics #16 Stamp Set was inked in Archival Black Ink and pressed in different spots on the pages. An Idea-Ology Compass Coin, Spinner and Key Hole were attached to the pages with Glue Dots.

"Remember the Now" was stamped in Archival Black Ink. The Corner Stamp from TH Classics #16 Stamp Set was stamped in the lower left and right pages using Archival Black Ink that was rubbed onto the stamp to create a second-generation look. An Idea-Ology Pen Nib was added to the page with Glue Dots.

Distressed Art Journal Pages 6 and 7

I have lots of goodies here that need a new home where they can be put to good use! Today's Dazzling Diva Design Challenge was to use Hexagons. I decided to do a couple more Art Journal Pages 'cause I am just an Art Journal-ista! (I wish I'd known how much fun this was going to be!) I started with my three favorite Craft Metal Colors – Dark Rich Chocolate Metal, Brushed Copper, and Brushed Bronze.

Tim Holtz Tissue Paper was attached to two pages of my Art Journal.

I rubbed Distress Stains Directly onto the Tissue Paper – Antique Bronze, Vintage Photo and Antique Linen. Then, I spritzed them with water, rubbed the pages with a Flour Sack Towel and dried it with a Heat Tool.

Using the Tim Holtz Die, I cut out Honeycombs in all three colors of Craft Metal.

The Dark Rich Chocolate Metal was used for the Honeycomb and then the other colors were placed in the centers and adhered with Glue Dots.

The Idea-ology lock was adhered to the top of the left page with Glue Dots. I used a Dyan Reavely Stencil and Dream Weaver's Black Embossing Paste to put the quote onto the pages.

The Tag was cut from cardstock and the decorative top was punched using a Stampin' Up! Scallop Edge Punch. It was Distressed using Distress Stains and then Idea-Ology Mini Corners were attached to the bottom and a Linen Ribbon was distressed and attached to the top. The whole tag was then layered onto a piece of Dark Chocolate Metal Sheet that was punched using the SU! Scallop Edge Punch and attached to the page using Sticky Strip.

Paint Marbled Art Journal Pages – 3 and 4

My Art Journal "Journey" continues with Pages 3 and 4. The Paint Marbling Technique was used on these pages as well so I'm entering them in CC3C. Thank you to all of the talented artists who inspire me and all of YOU, my loyal blog readers for your support and encouragement! It means so much!!

The Distress Paints used were: Rusty Hinge, Evergreen Bough and Antique Bronze.

Various Stencils from The Crafter's Workshop were used (Antiquities, Art Is and Mini Sketch Grid) along with Vintage Photo Distress Ink, Antique Bronze Distress Stain and a Blending Tool.

The Stamp Sets used were: Tim Holtz (love him!)- Good Thoughts, Just Thoughts, Fleur de Lis, Fabulous Flourises; Stampin' Up! The Open Sea. Other Supplies: Stampin' Up! Chocolate Chip Ink, Versamark Ink, Clear Embossing Powder, Vintage Photo Distress Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Stampin' Up! Black Journaling Marker and Chocolate Chip Stampin' Write Marker, Black Archival Ink.

The edges of the pages were inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and Walnut Stain Distress Ink

Paint Marbling Technique Tag

My "Mojo" made a brief appearance today! I was quite happy! LOL I did a Paint Marbling Tag for CC3 Challenge #1 (see it HERE) and was not entirely thrilled with it so I thought I would redeem myself with another attempt. I love the look of aged copper so I thought I'd try that color scheme this time. We can't post the Tutorial – (you'll find that in Tim Holtz's Compendium of Curiousities III) – But, I took pictures of each step for those of you who'd like to see them. Btw…Thank you so much for visiting my blog and, to those of you who routinely leave me comments, you have no idea how much I appreciate it! You truly warm my heart! As I'm creating, I am thinking of you and hoping you will be inspired. 🙂

The edges of the Tag were inked with Vintage Photo Distress and Walnut Distress Inks.

Antique Bronze Paint was sponged through the Faded Dots Layering Stencil.

A Background Stamp was inked lightly with Stampin' Up!'s Chocolate Chip Ink and pressed to the Tag in several places.

I used the matching Distress Stains to dye the Crinkle Ribbon to match the Tag.

The Key was stamped in Versamark Ink and embossed with Vintage Photo Distress Embossing Powder and the background stamp was inked in just a few spots and stamped in Versamark and embossed in the Vintage Photo Distress Embossing Powder to add a little more texture. The Gears were die cut and inked with Rusty Hinge Distress Ink and embossed with Vintage Photo Embossing Powder as well,.

The Idea-ology embellishments were inked with Distress Paints to age them.
The Sentiment was stamped with Stampin' Up! Chocolate Chip Ink and embossed with Clear Embossing Powder and a Heat Tool.The top of the Tag is from the Pediment die cut and was colored using the Paint Marbling Technique to match the Tag.

The Gear was cut in half and attached to the Tag with Glue Dots. The tiny Idea-ology Gear was attached with a Brad and the Chain was looped through the Gear and then through the Key.

The Corner piece was "aged" with Distress Paint also.

Enjoy the Journey Canvas

I just want to go on the record here…I am WAY out of my comfort zone with this project. I bought this TH Canvas and wanted to do a "Journey" project with it. My new fave technique is Embossing Paste with Stencils! This uses the Harlequin Stencil from The Crafter's Workshop. There's beautiful distressing built right into the stencil. I tried to give you detailed photos and instructions and included a short video showing you so the project. Let me know if you have any questions. Enjoy! 😀

The next photo is a sideview so you can see the texture and dimension. The Film Strip was adhered with Glue Dots so I could curve it. The edges were adhered to the canvas using Glue Dots or Staples.

First, I put The Crafter's Workshop Harlequin Stencil over the Canvas and spread Embossing Paste over it. (Clean your stencil immediately) Allow to dry.

Then, I sprayed Walnut Ink over the Embossing Paste. I used a rag to lift off some of the Ink in places so it wouldn't be quite so dark or uniform.

A small piece of TH Kraft Cardstock was cut, distressed and inked with Vintage Photo Distress ink and then Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

The tag was created using the same technique I used for the Vintage Postcard – You can see the Tutorial HERE.
Once the background of the tag was done, various stamps (map & script) were stamped over the top of it.

I wanted to use the Idea-ology word band that said: "Enjoy The Journey" but it was silver and I needed it to be bronze so I first rubbed Evergreen Bough Distress Ink into the words and allowed to dry.
Then, I applied Antique Bronze Distress Paint over the top of it and tapped it until I got the look I wanted. I smudged some of the Evergreen Bough in places as well.

I cut out a photo from one of TH's papers.

The photo was too white for the projects so I distressed the edges with a Distress Tool and sponged over them with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
I used an Industrial Sticker and sponged over that with Vintage Photo Distress Ink as well.

Crinkle Ribbon was dyed by spritzing it with water and running Scattered Straw and Vintage Photo Distress Ink Pads over the top, crinkling and then drying it with a Heat Tool.
Idea-Ology Gears were attached to the tag using a Paper Piercing Tool and a Screw Brad.

The gears were cut from Chipboard using the Gadget Gears Die.
They were inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and then inked with Distress Embossing Ink and embossed with Vintage Photo Distress Embossing Powder.
The Chipboard was then cut in half and adhered to the tag using Glue Dots.
The Word Band was attached to the tag using fibers that are secured behind with Glue Dots.
The Tag was distressed with a Distress tool and Inked with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.
A Mini Corner was attached to the bottom left corner of the tag and then it was hammered to distress it.
A strip of leather was attached to the side of the tag with Sticky Strip.

A scrap of printed Mulberry Paper was torn and inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and then attached to the canvas. The photo and stick were adhered on top.

Frame with Embossing Paste, Stencils and Vinyl

Today's Challenge was to create something using Vinyl and my Cricut for Scrapbooker PhD. I had a bunch of ideas but I wanted to do a Faux Leather-ish Frame that said "It's All About Family" because, at the end of the day, that's what it's really all about for me.

The Vinyl words are adhered to a Window Sheet so you can change the saying without altering the frame.

I started with a cheap dollar store wooden frame and applied Gesso with a foam brush.
Next, I painted the frame with TH Antique Linen Crackle Paint and allowed it to dry.

I used 3 Crafter's Workshop Sencils – Mini Harlequin, Antiquities and Time Travel, and applied Dreamweaver's Crackle Embossing Paste to the frame through the stencils and allowed to dry.

Once the Embossing Paste was dry, I applied Vintage Photo Distress Ink to the entire frame over the Embossing Paste.

Then, I applied SU! Chocolate Chip Ink to the frame and Embossing Paste.

I cut a piece of Manila Cardstock to 4-1/8" x 6-1/8".
Applied Distress Stains to a Craft Sheet and spritzed with Water.
Ran the cardstock through the Distress Stains and dried with a Heat Tool.

Used a Spritz & Flick Technique to drop water onto the cardstock and heat set.

Applied Vintage Photo Distress Ink to the cardstock and then inked the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a Blending Tool.

Cut Brown Matte Vinyl with Cricut and Cursive 101 Cartridge to create "It's all about Family."
Cut a Window Sheet to fit the size of the frame opening (mine was 4-1/4" 6-1/8").
Put Window Sheet over Grid Paper and marked where letters should go.
Applied Letters to Window Sheet.
