I just noticed that I haven’t posted anything since September! Yikes! For someone who used to post every single day, that’s crazy! I hope you’ve all be doing well in my absence. It’s not that I just forgot about all of you. Without being a Debbie Downer, I was dealing with my mom’s illness and just needed to be “all in” for her. She’s doing well, thank God!
I haven’t stopped creating so I have some things to share with you. My most recent excursion was to Santa Rosa, CA for Art Is You. Sallianne and her crew are truly amazing people. This was my third time attending and I can honestly say that I don’t think there’s anywhere else quite like it. They weren’t organizing an East Coast retreat this year so I hightailed it to CA and attended there. SO FUN! My husband was shocked that I would go “by myself,” but I told him I knew I wouldn’t be “by myself” for long – there are hundreds of the most accepting, inclusive, loving artists there and I was right!
I’m not sure WHY I always attend “alone,” it just seems to work out that way! As I’ve gotten older, I realize that tomorrow is promised to no-one. I’ve decided to seize my opportunities as they present themselves. I’m also much kinder to myself and don’t feel “guilty” when I do something for myself so…I take lots of classes!
The first year, I took a Coptic Book Binding Class with an amazing Artist, Sharon Payne-Bolton. You can see that post HERE.
Last year, I refinished a wooden jewelry box to house my embellishments. It was called the Mad Alchemist’s Apothecary Box with Michael deMeng.
I had never played with paint before so I was WAY out of my comfort zone! Michael is a riot and made learning fun and stress-free! He calls this mixture “Woosjh” (my spelling LOL).
I added some cool Steampunk elements to the pocket watch and distressed everything.
I love the way it turned out! I will be sharing more pictures from other classes but I just wanted to connect with you once again and share my love for all things ART!
Hugs,
Cathy
