Shabby Chic Album for Prime Publishing

Each year, Prime Publishing does a contest for the Best Craft Blogger Project. I was very fortunate to receive that honor last year for my Distressed Watercolor Card with Swarovski Crystals Card (See that post HERE) so I’m excited to participate again this year!!!! I kept starting projects and deciding – Nope! Not good enough! After much trial and error, I decided on this Shabby Chic Album. I sincerely hope you like it! (If you do, I’d love it if you would VOTE for me!)

This is the book with the right cover opened. It has a cool magnetic closure. I made a pocket on the inside of the flap for storing tags or other treats.

I love the metal bar for the spine. I got it at a Prima Class and, although I hated to “part” with it, it was perfect for this. I wrapped a chain around the inside of the book and attached various baubles to it.

The Best of 2015 Compilation

Thanks for visiting for the Best Mixed Media Projects of 2015. I have another favorite to share with you today. I’m not sure this Distress Ink Watercolor Card with Swarovski Crystals qualifies as Mixed Media as we know it, but it was one I was especially proud of. I entered a Best Blogger Contest and WON!!!! It was posted on the Fave Crafts Blog and people voted on it. With the help of you, my loyal readers, it was chosen #1!!! I was truly honored!

Day 7 Mixed Media Challenge Project – Shabby Chic Valentine Card

For Day 7 of the Mixed Media Challenge, I chose a personal favorite. This Shabby Chic Valentine Card from February 2015 was chosen by Tim Holtz (aka: “my boyfriend”) as a Blogworthy Link – a huge honor for me! It hangs in my office as a reminder for those days when I feel my work isn’t “good enough.”

Mixed Media Project Day 6 – Courage Jungle Card

I’m having fun looking through a year’s worth of Blog Posts to show you my favorites from 2015 for the Mixed Media Challenge! I hope you’ve found a few favorites too! Today is the Courage Jungle Card. This was created while trying to use some of the Craft Supplies that I hoard. But…you wouldn’t have any idea what I’m talking about, right? 😉

Mixed Media Project Day 5-Coptic Stitch Book

Day 5: 2015 was the year I vowed to step out of my Comfort Zone. Cliché? Yes! But it’s a necessary evil sometimes. With Art, you will learn so much by allowing yourself to be challenged. “Real” Art is something I’ve avoided because, until very recently, I didn’t consider myself or what I did as “Art.” This is a page from the Mini Book I created using the Coptic Stitch as taught by Sharon Payne Bolton – a beautiful person inside and out – and an amazing artist.

I spent a week taking classes at the Art Is You Retreat. Holy Moly! There are so many incredibly talented people out there with so differing viewpoints that make their work interesting and beautiful. It was a joy to sit among them and learn from them. In this class, we used authentic papers from all over the world dating back to the 20’s and beyond, actual letters that were written on air mail paper decades ago, stamps from all over the world, and papers and fibers that were original versions of things I routinely use “copies” of. Yes…it definitely feels different to use the real thing. Sharon coached and encouraged us and allowed us to take risks with our art that we hadn’t felt confident enough to try before. It was cathartic.

Day 4 of Mixed Media Projects from 2015

Are you enjoying this walk down memory lane? I am! When there’s distance between when a project is created and when I look at it always makes me less critical and I can finally enjoy my work. We are always hardest on ourselves, aren’t we.

2015 was the year I began to enjoy Art Journaling. One of my favorite things about it is that you are really creating for yourself and just for fun. That takes lots of pressure off of your efforts. I love coffee so I used lots of Distress Products to express that in this “Indulge Coffee Inspired Art Journal Layout.”

This is Day 4 of the Mixed Media Challenge where I’m showcasing some of my favorite Mixed Media Projects from 2015 and challenging others to do the same.

My Mixed Media Projects from 2015

Life has been time consuming of late so I haven’t been sharing as much. I was challenged to post a favorite Mixed Media Project from my 2015 Blog Posts on my Facebook Page every day for seven days. DAY 1 was The Cascade Vintage Mini Scrapbook

This Mini Scrapbook was created for a Guest Design Spot on a Vintage Journey. It has lots of grungy goodness!

Day 2 was Distress Ink Masculine Birthday Card

This is one of my favorites – partly because I created it for my son and partly because it uses some of my favorite Tim Holtz products.

Day 3 was the Time Traveler Masculine Card with Craft Metal

There is something I just love about the Time Traveler. I also love clocks – weird, right? – and craft metal and distress. This one has all of those things so it makes me happy!

I am usually Distressing like a mad woman but for #5, I created a Clean and Simple Coffee Card.

The card I made for my son’s 25th Birthday was a personal favorite for me so I was especially pleased that you guys made it #4 for the year. Check out the Distress Ink Masculine Birthday Card

This Coffee Card Gift Holder was #3 for the year.

Best of the Blog 2015 – 5

#10 Shiny Teal and Gold Birthday Card – This card was bling and fun so I actually “staged” the photo with some glitter objects. 😉

#9 – Romantic Vintage Valentine Card – Shabby Chic, Distress, Flowers, Glitter and a hanging pearl…what more does a girl need?!

#8 – Love Dove Journal Pages – I was saving my Dove wrappers for a long time. I have no idea why. LOL! So, I decided to use them for an Art Journal entry and then I threw the rest away!

#7 – CHA 2015 – Who’s Who – You know Tim Holtz is my Craft Crush! My husband calls him my “boyfriend.” LOL! Attending CHA is definitely one of the year’s highlights. I love seeing what’s coming out for the year before everyone else does. Here are a bunch of artists I had the pleasure of meeting at CHA 2015. You can See some of the cool projects from CHA HERE.

#6 – Live Simply Card with Glimmer Paper – I love glimmer and flowers and I guess you do too!

This Cascading Vintage Mini Scrapbook didn’t make the Top 10 List – but it was definitely one of my personal favorites.

Vintage Distress Snowflake Card

I hope you had a glorious Holiday – whichever one you celebrate. We’ve been experiencing an unusually warm “winter” in the Northeast which has caused massive procrastination with regard to all things Christmas. I was SO behind the whole holiday! I just keep reminding myself it’s not about all that “stuff” but about celebrating with those you love. My “babies” were home so everything went to the back burner. I will be posting a bunch of hand made cards that I received but today, I’d like to share a card I sent to some special friends.

When I create cards for other Crafters, I definitely have some anxiety. LOL! I know they will notice all the little details that non-crafters don’t. This card is a Vintage Distress Snowflake Card with a little grunge and a little shimmer.

The base card is Black Card Stock cut 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ and scored at 4-1/4″.
The next layer is a Silver Tim Holtz Deco Sheet cut 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″.

Vintage Snowflake Card Inks

Stormy Sky, Brushed Pewter, Tumbled Glass, and Weathered Wood Distress Stains were smushed onto a Craft Sheet and spritzed with water. A 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Manila Card Stock was spritzed with water, dragged through the inks and heat set.

The dried card stock was then smushed into the remaining inks and heat set again.

The manila post card was inked with Stormy Sky Distress Ink and a Blending Tool. Water was “Spritzed and Flicked” over the top of it to create the drop marks and heat set again.
The edges were inked with Black Soot Distress Ink and a Blending tool.

Paper Snowflake Thinlits Dies were placed over distressed card stock and it was run through the Big Shot. This gave me both the negative and popped out snowflakes.
Stormy Sky Distress Ink was sponged through the Gothic Layering Stencil and Black Soot Distress Ink was sponged through the Speckles Layering Stencil.

Brushed Pewter Distress Stain was “flicked” onto the distressed card stock and snowflakes using the Distress Splatter Brush (love it!).
The distressed card stock was attached to the Deco Sheet using adhesive on the edges and Glue Dots around the snowflake cut outs to secure the smaller pieces to the Deco Sheet.
Crinkle Ribbon was dyed using the same colors of Distress Stains and wrapped around the post card and secured behind. I tied a Double Bow using the How to Tie a Double Bow Using Your Fingers Technique (VIDEO HERE) and attached it to the ribbon with Glue Dots.

Believe from Holiday Words Script Thinlits was cut from Black Card Stock and flicked with Brushed Pewter Distress Stain using the Distress Splatter Brush. It was attached to the card stock using Tombow Liquid Glue.
Black Soot Distress Ink was applied to the cut out Snowflakes using a Mini Blending Tool. They were then attached to each other and then the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
The card was finished with Idea-ology Gum Drops in the center of all of the snowflakes.
