Magazine Monday on Saturday

I just realized I forgot to post my take on the Magazine Monday Challenge! If you’re looking for elegant, you want yesterday’s post HERE. Today, it’s distress and vintage again. (If you like Tags, Distress and Vintage, you might like this, this, this, or maybe even this.) 😉

Put Distress Stains onto a Craft Mat – Tea Dye, Frayed Burlap and Walnut Stain.
Swipe a Manila Tag through the colors and Heat Set.
Drip water onto the Tag and Dry.
Use Walnut Stain Distress Ink through the Splatters Layering Stencil.
Use Frayed Burlap Distress Ink through the Burlap Layering Stencil in a couple of places on the tag.
Use Tim Holtz’s “Artist” stamp from the Classics #4 Stamp Set. Swipe Black Archival Ink across the surface of the stamp and press in different places on the tag to create a subtle background.
Stamp the clock from the Mini Classics Stamp Set in Walnut Stain Distress Ink.
Stamp the vertical butterflies from the Papillon Stamp Set in Black Archival Ink.
Using a Blending Tool, bring Black Soot Distress Ink onto the tag to draw your eye to the center of the tag.
Attach Film Strip using the Tiny Attacher.
Ink a Blending Tool in Frayed Burlap Distress Ink and then drag across Stampin’ Up! Canvas Ribbon. Wrap ribbon around card and through an Idea-Ology Buckle. Attach the buckle with a brad and fray the edge a little.
Attach
Dye Crinkle Ribbon with Tea Dye, Frayed Burlap and Walnut Distress Stains.
Attach a kraft tag to finish the back of the manila tag.
Pull the ribbon through the hole in the tag.
Attach a Bronze Trinket Pin to the ribbon.
Attach a Muse Token to the Trinket Pin with a Jump Ring.

I created the backgrounds for both of these tags at the same time. (See the tutorial HERE.) They look very different but, while the inks are out, it’s easy to do shabby, grunge, distress, vintage, etc. Which is your favorite?

Flowers for my Mother

I’ve had my “grunge on” for the past week and I promised to get back to cards – so here’s a girly, frilly, flowered card for my mother. I incorporated several challenges for this one: Neglected Dies; The Sentiment as the focal point; Flower Shop; and Mother’s Day – how’s that for multi-tasking! I also tried to incorporate some of the strategies I learned in my photo-taking class at CHA this year. I’d love your feedback. 😀

Cut a piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock (#101650) 5 1/2″ x 11″.
Score and fold at 5 1/2″.
Cut a piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock 5 1/8″ x 5 1/8″.
Cut 3 strips of Very Vanilla Cardstock 1 5/8″ x 5″. Use 3 different Embossing Folders – Beautifully Baroque (#130917), Fancy Fan (#127751) and Square Lattice (#119976).
Reassemble onto the front of the 5 1/8″ x 5 1/8″ piece of cardstock – adhering with Stampin’ Dimensionals (#104430).
Wrap a piece of Very Vanilla Seam Binding (#120999) around the front of the embossed piece, adhering to the back with Glue Dots (#103683).
Using Pink Pirouette Cardstock (#111351) and the Paper Doily Sizzlit L (#125592), cut a doily by running through the Big Shot (#113439). Attach to the front of the card.
Tie a double bow from Very Vanilla Seam Binding (You can see the “How To” Video HERE) and attach to the front of the card.
Create 3 paper flowers using Pink Pirouette Card Stock and the Pansy Punch (#130698) (See Video HERE). Attach to the front of the card.
Stamp “For My Mother” from the Delightful Dozen Stamp Set (Wood #128547, Clear #122652) in Versamark Ink (#102283) onto Very Vanilla Cardstock and emboss with Gold Embossing Powder (#109129) and a Heat Tool (#129053). Punch out with the Decorative Label Punch (#120907).
Punch out a piece of Pink Pirouette Cardstock with the Decorative Label Punch. Cut in half diagonally and reassemble behind the greeting label. Attach to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Use the strip of pearls from the Pearl Basic Jewels (#119247) to border the label. You’ll need about 2 1/2 strips.
Use Glue Dots to “ruffle” the excess ribbon as desired.
Attach a Large Pearl Basic Jewel (#125577) to the bottom corner of the card front.
Spritz the entire project with Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz Spray (#118772).

All supplies are Stampin’ Up! unless indicated otherwise.

Papillon Vintage Tag with Bright Distress Colors

Like "My boyfriend, Tim," Browns are my favorite colors. I know you know because you're here! I thought I'd break out the bright color Distress Stains for my Vintage Tag today with the Papillon Stamps. (I know I've been immersed in my Tim Holtz Tag haze this week! I'll be getting back to Cards tomorrow.) "Embrace Imperfection" is one of my favorite sentiments. I have to remind myself of that often so I decided to make a tag using that stamp. My new Plaquettes arrived so I had to put one on there as well. Are you a bright person or a brown person? Or both? Leave me a comment and let me know: Cards or Tags? Brights or Browns?

Squeeze Tim Holtz Distress Stains onto a Craft Mat – Wild Honey, Peacock Feathers and Fired Bricks.
Swipe a Manila Tag through the colors, spritz with water and swipe again. Heat set.
Drop a few droplets of water onto the tag and heat set again.
Swipe an Archival Black pad across the art stamp from Tim Holtz's Classics #4 and stamp as a background onto the tag.
Line the Schoolhouse Layering Stencil over the tag and apply Picket Fence Distress Stain through the stencil using a Sponge Dauber.
Using Black Archival Ink, Stamp "Embrace Imperfection" from the Spills & Splatters Stamp Set.
Stamp the vertical Butterflies from the Papillon Stamp Set in Black Archival Ink.
Using a Blending Tool, bring some Black Soot Distress Inks onto the perimeter of the tag.
Attach a Plaquette to the tag.
Attach a Compass Coin with a Game Spinner to the tag.
Finish the bag of the tag by adhereing a black tag to the back of the manila tag.
Squeeze the same color Distress Inks onto the Mat and lay a piece of Crinkle Ribbon onto the stains.
Spritz the ribbon with water and crinkle and then heat set.
Tie the ribbon through the hole in the tag.

Eroded Metallic on Craft Metal Sheets

It's Wednesday – and that means Craft Metal Sheets! I was most excited for this week's Dazzling Diva Design Challenge because I love gears! (See the Inspirational Photo Below) I couldn't wait to get started – so I went into my Studio and looked for my Gear Die…you know what's coming, don't you…Maybe the gremlins stole the die but it is nowhere to be found! Now…if you saw Yesterday's Blog Post, you're probably thinking it's under the pile somewhere but it was NOT! So…I used Idea-ology gears instead. 🙁 The Technique is called Eroded Metallic and it is from "My Boyfriend, Tim's" Compendium of Curiosities Volume III. And…yes…I know I'm a groupie/stalker. (You say that like it's a bad thing – LOL) Hey! Are you on my Mailing List? Don't miss out! Just CLICK HERE.

Cut a piece of Stampin' Up!'s Bermuda Bay Cardstock at 4-1/4" x 11".
Score and Fold at 5-1/2". Distress edges with Distress Tool.
Cut a piece of Stampin' Up!'s Chocolate Chip Cardstock (yummm) at 4-1/8" x 5-3/8". Distress Edges with a Distress Tool.

Cut a piece of Add A Little Dazzle Brushed Copper Craft Metal Sheet at 4" x 5-1/4".

Use Tim Holtz Distress Paint in Broken China and Peeled Paint to cover the Craft Metal Sheet. Allow to dry. (I used a heat tool – but be careful-the metal gets hot.)

Paint with Antique Bronze Distress Paint.
Spritz some areas with water.

Dry the paint that does not have water.
Lay a paper towel over the whole surface and lift.

It looks awesome on paper too!

Now…back to the card…

Adhere the Craft Metal Sheet to the piece of Chocolate Chip Cardstock using Sticky Strip.
Adhere a Salvage Sticker (Tim Holtz-Crowded Attic) on the bottom right corner of your Craft Metal Sheet.
Layer the gears onto each other and adhere to the metal/cardstock using a Paper Piercing Tool and Brads.
Wrap a piece of twine around the metal/cardstock piece and tie.
Tie the Idea-ology Key to the twine.
Stamp "Thinking of You" from Stampin' Up!'s Express Yourself Stamp Set in Chocolate Chip Ink onto Very Vanilla Cardstock.
Tear all around the sentiment.
Sponge over the top using Antique Bronze Distress Stain.
Apply Broken China and Vintage Photo Distress Inks to the greeting using a Blending Tool.
Adhere greeting to the card front
Cut a piece of 4" x 5-1/4" Very Vanilla Cardstock and adhere to the inside of the card.

Vintage Make a Wish Card

I've been on a Masculine Card roll lately! I love anything aged, Vintage, Shabby Chic, or Distressed. This card is very simple — just use the Distress Tool to age your edges and then sponge some Chocolate Chip Ink and Voilá!

Cut Basic Black Cardstock (#121045) at 4-1/4" x 11".
Score and fold at 5-1/2". Distress the edges using a Distress Tool (#127562).
Cut a piece of Newsprint Designer Series Paper at 4" x 5-1/4".
Distress the edges of the Newsprint with a Distress Tool and crumble it up. Open it and sponge the edges with Chocolate Chip Ink (#126979) and a Stampin' Sponge (#101610). Run the sponge lightly over the creases to further age the paper. You can tear the edges slightly and sponge, if you prefer a "shabbier" look. Attach to the card front with your choice of adhesive.
Cut a piece of Early Espresso Cardstock (#119686) at 4" x 4-1/4". Run it through the Big Shot (#113439) in the Houndstooth Embossing Folder (#123134). Use the Distress Tool to distress the edges.
Cut a piece of Early Espresso Designer Series Paper from the Neutrals Pack (#130132) at 3-7/8" x 4-1/8" Distress and sponge the edges with Chocolate Chip Ink. Adhere to the Chocolate Chip/Houndstooth piece and adhere to the front of your card.
Stamp "Make a Wish" from the Perfect Pennants Stamp Set (#) in Early Espresso Ink (#126974) onto Very Vanilla Cardstock (#101650) and emboss with Clear Embossing Powder (#109130) and a Heat Tool (#129053).
Using the Circle Collection Framelit Dies (#130911), cut out the greeting. Distress the edges and sponge with Chocolate Chip Ink.
Cut a circle from Early Espresso Cardstock using the next size die – up from the one you used to cut your greeting. Distress the edges. (If you number your circles from largest to smallest, I used the #5 and #6 framelits.)
Mount the greeting circle to the cardstock circle. Attach to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals (#104430).
Tie a piece of Linen Thread (#104199) into a Designer Brushed Bronze Button (#127833) and attach to the card front using a Glue Dot (#103683) on one side and Stampin' Dimensionals on the other side. (The button will be level with the circles on one side so you will need to stack two halves of Stampin' Dimensionals on the other side to bring it up to the same height.)
Cut a piece of 4" x 5-1/4" Very Vanilla Cardstock and distress and sponge the edges. Adhere to the inside of the card.

Hello for Wind Challenge

I usually find challenges inspiring and can get right to work. This challenge had me stumped! I was supposed to make a card that has something to do with wind. I thought about a pinwheel or a kite but wanted to be a little out of the box. When I was a kid, my mom used to hang our clothes on a clothes line and we loved to run through the clothes. I remember them blowing in the wind and they always smelled incredibly good! So…for this card…the banners are my clothes in on the line in the wind. 😉

Thx Negative Die Cut Card

I'm continuing with my Multi-Challenge Card Making! I'm having a blast! I hope you're enjoying the Videos. I'd love to know what you think! Subscribe to my YouTube Channel so you never miss one! Today's card is a Negative Die Cut Card. I made two versions of this card and I really liked the way they turned out. (See below) Bermuda Bay and Black are one of my favorite combos – and it makes a great Masculine Look too!

Cut Basic Black Cardstock (#121045) at 4-1/4" x 11"
Score and fold at 5-1/2"
Cut Bermuda Bay Cardstock (#131197) at 4" x 5-1/4". Run through Big Shot (#113439) in the Darice Circle Interlock Embossing Folder.
Cut two different patterns of Stampin' Up! Kaleidascope Designer Series Paper (#132995) 4-5/8" x 1-5/8".
Layer onto Basic Black Cardstock (#121045) 4-3/4" x 1-3/4". Attach to card front.
Wrap 1/8" Black Tafetta Ribbon (#119261) around the Bermuda Bay layer and secure to the back of the cardstock using Glue Dots (#103683).
Adhere the Bermuda Bay Cardstock (#131197) to the card front.
Cut a piece of Basic Black Cardstock using one of the Chalk Talk Framelit Dies (#129983).
Using "thx" from the Circle Card Thinlits Dies (#133480), position it to cut out a piece of Bermuda Bay Cardstock. Before running through the Big Shot, layer the smaller tag from the Chalk Talk Framelits Dies to center the word "thx" and run both through the Big Shot. This will give you a tag with the words cut out. You can save the actual word "thx" because you're only using the Negative Die Cut.
Adhere the word tag to the black tag using Stampin' Dimensionals (#104430).
Add the entire tag to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.
Add a Bermuda Bay Candy Brad from the Brights Collection (#130931) to each side of the black tag.
Adhere a strip of Rhinestone Basic Jewels (#119246) to underline the word "thx."
Adhere a piece of 4" x 5-1/4" Whisper White Cardstock (#100730) to the inside of the card.

Use Your Stash – Thinking of You Card

I'm a hoarder! Yes – I said it. I compulsively collect all kinds of awesome Paper Crafting Supplies and then I just love them too much to use them. LOL Some things are worse than others – like flowers. I LOVE PAPER FLOWERS! I do make my own but when I find beauties like these, I find it very hard to part with them. Today's Card is another for the "Use Your Stash" Challenge so it's a license to use my favorites. It's also being entered into a few others as well. I like the jewels and flowers with the canvas. Cut a piece of Stampin' Up! Chocolate Chip Cardstock (SU#126979) to 5-1/2" x 8-1/2".
Score and fold at 4-1/4".
Attach a piece of 4" x 5-1/4" Crumb Cake Cardstock (SU#120953) to the card.
Cut a piece of Newsprint Designer Series Paper to 5-1/8" x 3-7/8". Adhere to the card front.
Cut a piece of Burlap and pull a few strings to fray the edges. Adhere to the card front.
Cut a piece of Add A Little Dazzle Dark Chocolate Craft Metal Sheet and run it through the Big Shot (SU#113439) in the Square Lattice Embossing Folder (SU#119976).
Tear a small piece of Chocolate Chip Cardstock and adhere to the underside of the Craft Metal Sheet with Glue Dots. Adhere to the Burlap with Stampin' Dimensionals (SU#104430).
Adhere a bling swirl (my description, not theirs) from Prima-Say It In Crystals Collection to the upper left and lower right corners of the DSP.
Adhere a Prima Flower from the Engraver Collection to the bottom left with Glue Dots and a Prima Butterfly from the same collection to the upper right with Glue Dots (SU#103683).
Stamp "Thinking of You" from the Sassy Salutations Stamp Set (wood #, clear #126707) in Chocolate Chip Ink (SU#126979) on Very Vanilla Cardstock (SU#101650) and emboss with Clear Embossing Powder (#109130) and a Heat Tool (SU#129053).
Punch out with the Decorative Label Punch (#120907).
Sponge the edges of the DSP with Chocolate Chip Ink and a Stampin' Sponge.
Finish with a Marker Spritzing Tool and a Chocolate Chip Marker (SU#131261) to "dirty" the corners of the Newsprint Designer Series Paper.
Adhere a piece of 4" x 5-1/4" Very Vanilla Cardstock (SU#101650) to the inside of the card and spritz the edges with the Marker Spritzer and a Chocolate Chip Stampin' Write Marker.

Ombre Technique With Metal Craft Sheets

Today’s Dazzling Diva Design Challenge was the Ombre Technique. (See inspiration photo below.) I wanted to use Add A Little Dazzle Craft Metal Sheets to do the technique. I also like to incorporate several challenges into my cards, if possible. This one qualified for several – Yay! I will be posting a video tutorial tomorrow. Cut a piece of Chocolate Chip Cardstock (#102128) at 5″ x 10″.
Score and fold at 5″.
Cut a piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock (#101650) at 4-7/8″ x 4-7/8″.
Cut a piece of Chocolate Chip Cardstock at 2″ x 4-7/8″.
Cut a piece of Dark Chocolate Craft Metal Sheet at 2″ x 4-7/8″.
Cut a piece of Precious Pearl Craft Metal Sheet at 2″ x 4-7/8″.
Emboss each of the three pieces of 2″ x 4-7/8″ using the Beautifully Baroque Embossing Folder (#130917) and the Big Shot (#113439).
Using Sticky Strip (#104294), attach the three pieces onto the Very Vanilla Cardstock, overlapping them.
Adhere a piece of Very Vanilla Seam Binding (#120999) to the front of the piece you just created – attaching it behind the cardstock using Glue Dots (#103683).
Tie a double bow using the Very Vanilla Seam Binding and attach to the card with Glue Dots.
If desired, “ruffle” the ribbon using Glue Dots.
Attach the entire card front to the Chocolate Chip Card using Stampin’ Dimensionals (#104430).
Stamp “A million & one Thanks” from the Million & One Stamp Set (wood #126375/clear #126377) in Chocolate Chip Ink (#126979) onto Very Vanilla Cardstock and emboss with Clear Embossing Powder (#109130) and a Heat Tool (#129053).
Cut out the greeting using the #4 Window Frames Framelit Die (#129021) (numbering from outside to inside).
Cut a piece of Chocolate Chip Cardstock using the #4 Window Frame Framelit Die. Cut that piece in half diagonally and reattach it behind the greeting to create a slight border.
Attach the greeting to the front of the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Decorate the corners of the greeting with four of the smallest Pearl Basic Jewels (#119247).
Add one Large Pearl Basic Jewel (#125577) to the corner of the card.
Attach a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock to the inside of the card.
