Subway Embossing Folder with Craft Metal Card

I love this Subway Embossing Folder! Maybe because I live in New York and the names of these places bring up memories – I don’t know but I just love it! I love Craft Metal Too and Distress and Idea-ology Charms too so they’re all on here! This is a great Masculine Card – no ribbons or bows – just yummy grunge.

Subway Embossing Card with Craft Metal

SU! Basic Black Cardstock 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ – Scored and folded at 4-1/4″.
Smush Black Soot and Peacock Feathers Distress Inks along with White Picket Fence Distress Stain onto a Craft Sheet and spritz with water.
Drag a 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ piece of Manila Cardstock through the inks and heat set. Continue to do that until you achieve the desired result.
Smush Brushed Pewter Distress Stain onto the Craft Sheet and touch the card stock to the Brushed Pewter Distress Stain and heat set.

Subway Background Collage

Put a piece of Black Diamond Craft Metal into the TH Subway Embossing Folder and pass through the Big Shot.
Remove it from the Embossing Folder and Sand just the raised Embossed letters. Use a Swiffer Sheet to clean the dust from the Craft Metal.
Use your finger to apply Turquoise Inka Gold to the raised Embossed portions of the Craft Metal.
Adhere the Craft Metal to a piece of Basic Black Cardstock and then attach it to the card.
Adhere Idea-Ology Charms to the card front with Glue Dots.
Adhere a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Whisper White Cardstock to the inside of the card.

Happy Birthday Card with Distress Ink, Brick Wall and Craft Metal

For some crazy reason, I LOVE doors/doorways. When I travel, I always find myself taking photos of beautiful doorways and I love those posters of doors. Hmmm – wonder what that means! LOL – Today’s inspirational photo (below) from the Add A Little Dazzle Dazzling Diva Challenge was a huge inspiration! I loves the colors and the style! I wanted to recreate the brick look and the feel of the door without doing a literal interpretation so this is what I came up with.

If you’re a frequent visitor to my Blog, you know I am happiest when I’m distressing my projects and creating some type of Vintage look so I used the MFT Brick Wall Stencil with new Distress Stain Sprays along with Distress Inks for the background and Brushed Bronze Craft Metal with the Damask Background Stencil for the center.

I taped down the Brick Wall Stencil from My Favorite Things over Manila Cardstock. (The center was going to be covered by the Craft Metal so I taped it there.)
I sprayed Distress Stain Sprays in Tea Dye, Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain, Black Soot and Tarnished Brass over the Stencil, heat setting in between layers.
Once they were dry, I removed the stencil and used a Mini Blending Tool to apply Frayed Burlap Distress Ink over the remaining areas of the stencil to blend the color.

Can you tell how addicting these Distress Stain Sprays are?! Yikes!

I spritzed Crinkle Ribbon with Water and sprayed Distress Stain Sprays onto it. The Colors I used were Rusty Hinge, Tea Dye, Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain.
I crinkled it and Heat Set it.
There was lots of Distress Stain left on the Craft Sheet so I spritzed a few tags with water and dragged them through the Ink and Heat Set them. (You’ll be seeing them on other projects, I’m sure!)

Happy Birthday with Bricks and Distress

I used a strip of AALD Brushed Bronze Craft Metal for the center. First, I embossed it using a Damask Background Stencil and a No More Shims Pad and then adhered it onto a strip of Dark Chocolate Craft Metal and then adhered it to the center of the “Brick Wall.” The Metal gives the project a rich, elegant feel.
I adhered a piece of the dyed Crinkle Ribbon to the side of the Craft Metal Strip and secured it behind the card stock using Glue Dots.
I tied a bow using the “How to Tie a Double Bow using your Fingers Technique” (See Video Here) and then adhered it to the project with Glue Dots.
I stamped “Happy Birthday” from the Neat & Tangled Photo Booth Stamp Set in Jet Black Archival Ink onto a piece of Manila Cardstock and punched it out using the SU! Modern Label Punch. The edges are sponged in Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.
I used the Modern Label Punch to punch out a piece of Brushed Bronze Craft Metal and cut it in half. After applying Adhesive to the back of the greeting piece, I reassembled the Brushed Bronze punched piece so that it framed the greeting. The whole piece was adhered to the center of the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Neat & Tangled Copper Penny Satin Sequins were applied to the front of the project with Glue Dots.
The Manila Cardstock piece was attached to a 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ piece of SU! Chocolate Chip Cardstock that was scored and folded at 4-1/4″.
A piece of SU! Very Vanilla Cardstock was adhered to the inside of the card.

Distressed Fall Leaf Blueprint Card

I had to create a Masculine Card and always want to get the most use out of my seasonal stamps so I started with TH’s Fall Leaf Blueprint Stamp Set. My watercoloring abilities are beginner at best but here it is anyway. 😉

Fall Leaf Blueprint Card

Smush or Spray Distress Stains onto a Craft Sheet, Spritz with Water, Swipe Manila Cardstock through and Heat Set. Tap the Cardstock into the Remaining droplets of color and Heat Set again. Apply additional color where desired using Distress Inks and a Blending Tool.

Stamp a Leaf from the Fall Leaf Blueprint Stamp Set in Jet Black Archival Ink onto the flat side of Watercolor Paper. Use Watercolor Markers in Fall Colors to color it in by scribbling them onto an Acrylic Block and picking up the color with an Aqua Painter. Heat Set. Tear one edge and apply Spiced Marmalade and Gathered Twigs Distress Inks to the edges of the Watercolor Paper.

Attach Idea-ology Mini Corners to opposite corners of the Watercolor piece and attach to the front of the Background you’ve created. Slip an Idea-ology Buckle onto a piece of Early Espresso Seam Binding and secure with a Brad. Wrap the Ribbon around the Background piece and secure behind using Glue Dots. Attach the Background piece to a Chocolate Chip Card.

Two Tags for Tim’s November 12 Tags of 2014

Vintage and Distress can be quite addicting! A few days ago, I created my version of Tim’s November Tag for the 12 Tags of 2014. (You can see it HERE.) I loved creating it but I wasn’t entirely happy with the results so I took another shot at it today. I also fell in love with the Corrugated Leaf that was left over so I created a Reverse Version using that Leaf in the forefront of the tag. To say I got carried away and ended up in a mess is an understatement! LOL But I love these. Leave me a comment to let me know which version you prefer! 🙂

I’ll begin with the Reverse Tag Version shown below.

I spritzed Distress Stains in Spiced Marmalade, Wild Honey, Rusty Hinge and Brushed Bronze onto a Craft Sheet. After spritzing them with Water, I ran the tag through. I sponged Walnut Stain Distress Ink through TH’s Faded Dots Stencil and Gold Embossing Paste through the Burlap Stencil. I flicked some Black Soot Distress Stain Spray onto the tag – because, honestly, I was too afraid to actually spray onto the tag ;).

I used several colors of Distress Paints on the Craft Sheet, spritzed with Water and swiped the Corrugated Leaf through and heat set. I tapped it into the paint and heat set again. I then spritzed the Tag with Distress Stain Sprays in Walnut Stain, Rusty Hinge, Black Soot and Brushed Bronze. I used a Paint Brush and Versamark Ink Refill to put a few splotches onto the leaf and embossed them with Gold Embossing Powder.

I used Distress Stains – Spiced Marmalade, Antique Linen and Vintage Photo – to dye my favorite Crinkle Ribbon. I wrapped it around my fingers about four times and then tied it with a smaller piece of the dyed ribbon to create the Quadruple Bow and tied it through the hole in the Tag.

Reverse Tag Bow 2 I love how the leaf turned out with all the shimmer and texture. It’s Vintage and Distressed without being too Grungy.

I wrapped a Black Fiber around the tag and then adhered an Idea-ology Charm with a Jump Ring. An Idea-ology Mini Corner was attached to the lower right corner of the tag. A Tiny Tag with a Remnant Rub was also adhered to the finished tag. Reverse Tag Collage Finished This Tag is my Second Attempt at Tim’s November Tag and was created in much the same way as my first version except I intentionally tried to stay brighter with the base tag so the leaf would show through better and reigned my inner grunginess in a bit. I stripped some of the paper from a piece of corrugated paper from some left-over packaging and die cut it using the Layered Leaf Die. The actual leaf was used in the Tag detailed above. The corrugated paper was then spritzed with Distress Stain Sprays – Black Soot, Walnut Stain, Tarnished Gold and a tiny bit of Brushed Bronze – because I just cannot resist it Die Cut Corrugated Leaf

Luckily, the Layered Leaf Die comes with a coordinating Embossing Folder!!! I inked it lightly with Walnut Stain Distress Ink and ran the tag through the Big Shot. I smudged the ink a little with a Blending Tool and used a Paint Brush and Versamark Ink Refill to apply Gold Embossing Powder to the Leaf and heat set it.

Embossed Leaf for Two Tags I applied Glue and Seal (love it!) to the back of the corrugated cut out and layered it over the tag matching up the leaves. I put an acrylic block over it for a couple of minutes to dry. Once it was dry, I trimmed around the edges of the Tag and saved those delicious Distressed pieces for another day! I sponged Black Soot Distress Ink around the edges of the Tag with a Mini Blending Tool.

Two Tags layered I dyed Crinkle Ribbon with Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed and Mowed Lawn Distress Stains and pulled it through the hole in the tag. Before I tied it, I slipped an Idea-Ology Pin over it and attached an Idea-ology Token to the pin and then pulled the ends through the loop to tie the ribbon. The bottom of the tag is embellished with a Black and Cream Ribbon from TH Trimmings threaded through an Idea-ology Buckle and secured it with a brad. I added an Arrow from Idea-ology Alpha Parts Framed.

Here it is in all of it’s Grunginess. I think it looks better with the contrast of the brighter version of the leaf popping through.

Vintage Card with Altered Key

I love Vintage Cards. They remind me of something you’d find in your Grandmother’s Attic and are a nostalgic peek into the past – Days Gone By. Distress Stain Sprays make creating a Vintage Project quick and easy. This card has lots of my favorite elements – plus a new found love…Altered Keys!

The top layer is SU! Very Vanilla Cardstock that was embossed using TH’s Postmarks Embossing Folder. It was sponged with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and then sprayed with Vintage Photo Distress Stain Spray and Brushed Bronze Distress Stain Spray. The edges were inked with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

The key was glued onto a filigree embellishment that was decorated with Mini Pearls colored with a SU! Chocolate Chip Blendabilities Alcohol Marker. Charms were attached to the key using Jump Rings. The key was attached to the card stock with Glue Dots.

I created the keys above for an Altered Key Swap. It was the first time I had ever even heard of Altered Keys! It was both challenging and addicting. I used Distress Paints to age the keys and various embellishments to decorate them. Definitely try it! Once you get the hang of it, you’ll rummage through your stash and come up with all kinds of ways to create your very own masterpieces.

Crinkle Ribbon (love that stuff!) was dyed using Distress Stains – Vintage Photo, Antique Linen and Walnut Stain – and tied using the “How to Tie a Double Bow Using Your Fingers” Technique (You can see a Video Tutorial HERE).

Fall Tag for November 12 Tags of 2014

As you know, I love all things Tim! At the beginning of a new month, his Tag is the first thing I look at when I open my computer. The 12 Tags Series has challenged everything I know about Paper Crafting and has helped me to grow both in my skills and in my confidence. Actually Winning for one of them was a highlight of this year! (January-You can see it HERE.) There are months I love my creation and months that I find recreating Tim’s Tag more challenging. This month was definitely one of those months! I love Vintage, Distress and Grunge! This month’s Tag takes those things to a whole new level!

You are actually looking through a corrugated cut out showing the leaf on the Tag underneath – cool, right?

Distress Paint Colors for Nov Tag

I didn’t have the same colors of Distress Paints that Tim used. (I know! I thought I had everything too! LOL) I used the colors above and smushed them onto the Craft Sheet, spritzed with Water and ran the Tag through. The one on the left was the first tag – the colors blended together too much so I did a second tag (on the right) which was the one that I used for this project. The Tag on the right was Heat Set and then tapped into the remaining paint on the Craft Sheet and then Heat Set again.

I used my mini Walnut Stain Ink Pad to smash color into the Layered Leaf Embossing Stencil and ran my Tag through the Big Shot in the folder. Okay…so at this point, I got so carried away and dirty that I totally forgot to take pictures! You can see Tim’s Tutorial for the tag HERE. I used a Mini Blending Tool to spread some of the color onto the embossed leaf on the tag.

After applying Distress Embossing Ink through the Speckled Stencil, I sprinkled Heat & Stick Powder and heated it. I didn’t have Foil Sheets so I used little foil scraps that I had in my drawer and poured them over the top so that they would stick to the speckles on the leaf.

Next, I tore pieces of the backing paper of a corrugated piece of paper and cut the Layered Leaf from it. Then I applied Walnut Stain Ink with a Blending Tool and spritzed Walnut Stain Distress Stain Spray over it and Tarnished Brass Distress Stain Spray as well. (Yes! You definitely need the sprays too!) I used Glue & Seal – YES!!!! The Glue & Seal that hasn’t been available for a year! The Glue & Seal that Wendy Vecchi talks about all the time! Yes! That Glue & Seal is now available! Yay! – I attached the corrugated piece over the tag, lining up the cut out leaf over the embossed leaf so it would show through.

I used Here & Now from the Framed Alpha Parts and threaded a Black and Cream Ribbon from the Trimmings Set and tied it, fraying the edges. I attached an Arrow and a tiny label with a Remnant Rub.

I used the matching Distress Stains to dye a Crinkle Ribbon and tied it through the Tag.

All in all, it was a delicious distressed dirty mess but I’m sort-of happy with the way it turned out. I will definitely be taking another shot at it later in the month, though! LOL!

Fall Themed Grateful Canvas

Today, I’m Guest Designing at Craft Hoarder’s Anonymous again! The Challenge is to “Layer It!” (See Details Below). I consider myself a Card Maker more than anything else but lately I’ve been creating Canvases and I’m really starting to like them! They’re like really big cards. I think fall is fabulous and so are these Tim Holtz leaves so I knew I wanted to use them to create a Fall Themed Grateful Canvas!

I started with a plain white Canvas and rubbed Distress Stains directly onto it – Wild Honey and Rusty Hinge. The canvas didn’t absorb the colors so they were fairly light.

I used Crackle Embossing Paste through TH’s Harlequin Stencil and allowed it to dry.

I used Gold Embossing Paste through the TH Speckled Stencil and White Embossing Paste through the CW Sketch Grid Stencil.

I created the leaves using TH’s Layered Leaf Bigz Die with Texture Treads – See THE TUTORIAL HERE.

I spritzed the leaves with Cappuccino Perfect Pearls Mist. I cut the Honeycomb Framewords from Cork and adhered it to the side of the canvas. I put a little Crystal Effects into the corner of a couple of the honeycombs and sprinkled Gold Beads on top. I did the same with Chunky Glitter. I sponged Tarnished Brass Distress Stain through the Bubbles Stencil onto the Canvas before attaching the leaves.

I cut Elegant Flourishes from SU! Early Espresso Cardstock and adhered some Chunky Glitter and then attached them to the Canvas. I cut the greenery using Garden Green Cardstock and the TH Pinecone Die and attached it behind the leaves. Crinkle Ribbon was dyed using Wild Honey, Rusty Hinge and Barn Door Distress Stains. It was tied into a Double Bow using the “How to Tie a Double Bow using your Fingers” Technique (You can see a VIDEO HERE.) and attached it to the top of the Canvas.

Using TH’s Alphaneumeric Letter Framelits, the word “Grateful” was cut from the scraps of card stock that was used to cut the leaves.

They were covered with Crystal Effects and attached to the Canvas using Liquid Glue.

TH’s Pinecone Die was used to cut Brown Kraft Core Cardstock. They were sanded, assembled, and attached to TH Linen Ribbon and then adhered to the leaves at the bottom of the Canvas.

Subway Embossing with Craft Metal Card

This card uses the Subway Embossing Folder on Black Craft Metal, Silver Cardstock and again on Black Craft Metal to create an edgy look. The base card is SU! Basic Black Cardstock cut to 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ – scored and folded at 4-1/4″.
A 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of AALD Craft Metal was embossed using TH’s Subway Embossing Folder and the Big Shot. The raised portions of the Embossed Craft Metal were sanded using a Sanding Block.
A 1-3/4″ x 4″ piece of Silver Cardstock was embossed using the Subway Embossing Folder again. It was adhered to the Black Craft Metal using Score-Tape.
The raised portion of a 3-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ piece of embossed Craft Metal was rubbed with Turquoise Inka Gold adhered to a 3-3/8″ x 4-3/8″ piece of Basic Black Cardstock. It was adhered to the card using Score-Tape.

A piece of Basic Black Cardstock was rubbed with an Embossing Buddy. A stamp from an SU! Stamp Set was stamped onto the card stock with Versamark Ink and embossed with Silver Embossing Powder and a Heat Tool and punched out with a 1-1/4″ Scalloped Circle Punch.
“For You” from the same stamp set was embossed with Silver Embossing Powder on Lost Lagoon Cardstock and punched out using a 3/4″ Circle Punch.
They were layered on top of each other using Stampin’ Dimensionals and then attached to the Craft Metal with another Stampin’ Dimensional.
A 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Whisper White Cardstock was adhered to the inside of the card.

Fall Thanksgiving Card with Acorn and Alcohol Background

Today’s background uses Alcohol and Archival Inks. One of my faves. It’s a little different than my usual Alcohol Background. This one uses short strokes with a Mini Brayer on Specialty Stamping Paper. It looks a little sloppy when you first do it but, once you stamp on it, yummmmm! The colors are Dandelion, Orange Blossom, Tree Branch, and Potting Soil Archival Inks.

Background for Thanksgiving Card with Acorn

The Acorn from TH Leaf Blueprints Stamp Set was stamped in SU! Chocolate Chip Ink onto the background. Next, I stamped it in Chocolate Chip Ink onto the flat side of Watercolor Paper and embossed it with Clear Embossing Powder. I used Old Paper, Gathered Twigs and Walnut Stain Distress Inks and a Watercolor Brush to color the acorn in.

I cut the acorn out and attached it to the card front with Foam Tape. Pearl Basic Jewels were colored with Brown Alcohol Markers and attached to the card.

A piece of AALD Dark Chocolate Craft Metal was passed through the Big Shot in a Woodgrain Embossing Folder and attached to the card front using Scor-Tape. Crinkle Ribbon was dyed with Rusty Hinge Distress Stain, Walnut Stain and Gathered Twigs Distress Stains. I used the How To Tie A Double Bow Using Your Fingers Technique (See a Video HERE) to tie the Double Bow and attached it to the card with Glue Dots.

The Specialty Stamping Paper Background was attached to a SU! Chocolate Chip Card with Foam Tape. “Give Thanks” from the SU! And Many More Stamp Set was stamped in Chocolate Chip Ink.

Altered Worn Cover with Vintage Gears

I’ve grown to love Grunge! Pretty much any kind of Grunge – Altered Art, Vintage, Distress – all of it! The CC3C Challenge highlights a technique from Tim Holt’z Compendium of Curiosities III Book. This Challenge was to create a Worn Cover from one of Tim’s covers. It also works for Simon Says Stamp’s “O” challenge because it looks Old! 😉

I started with one of Tim’s Journal covers which was pretty worn already.

I applied Brushed Corduroy Distress Stain over the entire cover. Crackle Embossing Paste was applied through a TH Crocodile Stencil. Once it was dry, I added Brushed Corduroy Distress Stain over the Crackle Paste and then Walnut Stain Distress Stain over it to darken it a little.

I die cut Grunge Board with the Weathered Clock Die and the Gadget Gears die. I inked them with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and then covered them with Versamark Ink and then Vintage Photo Distress Embossing Powder. I applied a little Evergreen Bough Distress Paint over it with my finger. I used a few Idea-ology Charms with a Swivel Clasp and Jump Rings– applying Evergreen Bough Distress Paint in random places.

Crinkle Ribbon was dyed using Brushed Corduroy and Vintage Photo Distress Stains. It was tied around the “binding” of the cover before I put the ring binder in. I tied the altered Idea-ology Charms to the ribbon and knotted it. I then tied a double bow using the edges of the ribbon. (Click HERE for a Video showing How to Tie a Double Bow using your Fingers)

To decorate the inside covers, I sponged Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink through the Crocodile Stencil and Frayed Burlap Distress Ink through the Burlap Stencil. A couple of background stamps were lightly stamped and Remnant Rubs were applied in various places.

Idea-ology Mini Gears were adhered in opposite corners. The photo below shows the ribbon placement beneath the Ring Binder – which was attached using Hitch Fasteners.
